With so many unanswered questions, fans are hoping that Tracker Season 2 will provide viewers with much-needed insight into Colter’s dad’s real killer and other mysteries. Whether or not those questions will be answered in Season 2 remains to be seen, but a recent cast update suggests that fans will be one step closer to solving the mystery next season.
Who is on the cast of Tracker Season 2?
No members of the Tracker cast have announced they’re leaving at the time of writing, so all five main cast members are expected to return for Season 2: Justin Hartley (Colter Shaw); Robin Weigert (Teddi Bruin); Abby McEnany (Velma Bruin); Eric Graise (Bobby Exley); and Fiona Rene (Reenie Greene.) Three guest stars from Tracker Season 1 are also expected to return for Season 2: Melissa Roxburgh, who played Colter’s sister Dory Shaw; Jensen Ackles, who played Colter’s brother Russell Shaw; and Sofia Pernas, who played Colter’s rival Billie Matalon. (Pernas is also Hartley’s wife.) Hartley confirmed this in an interview with Collider in May 2024. “[Sofia] is coming back. Jensen [Ackles] is coming back. Melissa [Roxburgh] is coming back. Here’s another spoiler for you. They’re all coming back,” he said.
As for why they’re coming back, Russell and Dory’s guest appearances will likely have to do with the brothers’ father, Ashton Shaw, who died decades ago. Russell, who has been estranged from Colter for years, first appeared in Tracker in the penultimate episode of Season 1, where he denied pushing his father off a cliff and killing him years ago. He reasoned that Ashton either fell or was pushed by someone else, as Russell saw someone in the woods the night Ashton died, talking to their mother, Mary Dove Shaw.
Russell revealed that Mary told him to leave and never tell anyone about what he saw because their lives depended on it, so Russell left the family to join the army while Mary convinced Colter that Russell killed Ashton for an unknown reason. The conversation ends there with Russell asking Colter for another favor, but fans are sure the mystery will be explored further in Season 2 with future visits from the Shaw siblings. As for who actually killed Ashton, it seems pretty obvious to Russell, so it could be the mystery man Russell saw, who viewers will likely learn more about in Season 2. In an interview with Collider, Hartley teased how Colter’s belief that Russell killed their father affected their relationship. “Colter’s brother killed his father, so that creates a different dynamic. The relationship with Dory is strained for other reasons. It’s not that he suspects her of doing anything wrong, but it’s strained for other reasons,” he said.
When is Tracker Season 2 release date?
CBS has yet to announce an exact premiere date for Tracker Season 2. However, the network has confirmed that it will return in the fall of 2024 and will remain in the 8pm-9pm time slot on Sunday nights. This will be followed by The Equalizer Season 5 from 9pm-10pm. Mid-season, Tracker will be followed by the new series Watson, a medical drama inspired by Sherlock Holmes’ Dr. John Watson, in the 10pm-11pm time slot on Sunday nights. Watson will take over the former timeslot of CSI: Vegas, which was canceled after its third season in April 2024. As for the exact premiere date for Tracker, we estimate that it will likely be October 6, 2024, based on the premiere dates of previous seasons of The Equalizer, which premiered around the first week of October.
How many episodes will Tracker Season 2 have?
CBS has yet to confirm the episode count for Tracker Season 2, however, it is expected to have more episodes than Season 1, which had 13 episodes due to the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes that delayed production on many primetime shows. As for the episode count for Tracker Season 2, we estimate that it will be around 18 episodes, the same number of episodes that Equalizer had in its 2nd and 3rd seasons.
