Which Tracker Season 3 Episodes Will Jensen Ackles Return?
Jensen Ackles’ return for Tracker season 2 has been confirmed. The CBS procedural broke viewership records to become the most-watched show of the 2023-2024 television season, beating out popular series like NCIS. What makes the show even more impressive is that it’s essentially a new IP on the small screen. Marking Justin Hartley’s return to the small screen since ending his role on NBC’s family drama This Is Us, Tracker follows Colter Shaw as he helps track down missing people in exchange for money. The show is based on Jeffery Deaver’s 2019 novel The Never Game.
As revealed during Tracker season 2’s San Diego Comic-Con 2024 panel, Ackles will join the show’s second season next year as Colter Shaw. Check out the update from X-Men user @thatsagoodline below:
No other details were revealed about the terms of the upcoming reunion between the Shaw brothers. However, the update revealed that the plot of Tracker season 2, episode 2, will address the UFO mystery.
Teaming up would be the best way for the Shaw brothers to get the answers they need, especially if the plot involves their mother and sister, Dory.
In addition to Colter’s weekly adventures, Tracker has an overarching storyline that delves into the Shaw family’s past. The plot revolves around the mysterious death of his father. For years, he believed that Russell killed his father—a truth that wasn’t made clear until their reunion in season 1. It turns out that their mother convinced the Shaw brothers to leave after the tragedy, leading Colter to believe that he ran away because he was guilty. Unfortunately, these revelations come while they’re working on another case. At the time they parted ways, many details about that case remain unanswered.
Solving this lingering case is the main reason why Ackles’ Russell needs to return to Tracker season 2. While Colter is the star of the police procedural, it would be difficult to solve the mystery of their family without his brother’s involvement. It seems Russell has his own questions about what happened to their family. Working together would be the best way for the Shaw brothers to get the answers they need, especially if there’s a plot involving their mother and sister, Dory.
Plus, the chemistry between Ackles and Hartley is incredible. Even without a larger mystery, it would still be fun to see them share the screen again. Luckily, the UFO episode isn’t Russell’s only confirmed appearance. It was announced that he would be joining the Tracker cast for multiple episodes in season 2, meaning he is expected to return after the next encounter with his brother.
