Where Are They Now? Catching Up with the Original Cast of NCIS

NCIS has been a television powerhouse for over two decades, captivating audiences with its blend of crime-solving and character-driven stories. But it all began with a core group of unforgettable characters who laid the foundation for the show’s enduring success. From Special Agent Gibbs’ quiet intensity to Abby’s unique charm, these actors became household names. So, where are the original stars of NCIS now?

  • Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs): The stoic leader of the NCIS team, Gibbs was the heart and soul of the show for 18 full seasons before stepping away early in Season 19 in 2021. While his on-screen presence is missed, Harmon remains connected to the NCIS universe as an executive producer for the upcoming prequel series, NCIS: Origins. He is also reportedly enjoying spending more time with his family.

  • Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo): The charismatic and often humorous Senior Field Agent Tony DiNozzo was a fan favorite for 13 seasons. After leaving NCIS, Weatherly starred in the legal drama Bull from 2016 to 2022. Exciting news for NCIS fans: Weatherly is set to reprise his role as Tony in a new spin-off series, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, alongside Cote de Pablo, slated for release in 2025. He also co-hosts the podcast Off Duty: An NCIS Rewatch with de Pablo.

  • Pauley Perrette (Abby Sciuto): The quirky, energetic, and fiercely loyal forensic scientist Abby Sciuto was an integral part of the NCIS team for 15 seasons. After her departure in 2018, Perrette starred in the short-lived CBS sitcom Broke in 2020. She has since retired from acting and has become a vocal activist and philanthropist, dedicating her time to various social causes.

  • David McCallum (Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard): The eccentric and beloved Medical Examiner Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard was a constant presence on NCIS for 20 seasons. Sadly, David McCallum passed away in 2023. He continued to make occasional appearances on the show in his later years, leaving behind a legacy as one of television’s most cherished characters. The show paid tribute to him and his character in Season 21.

  • Sasha Alexander (Kate Todd): Special Agent Caitlin “Kate” Todd was a key member of the original team during the first two seasons of NCIS. After her character’s shocking departure, Alexander moved on to star in the TNT crime drama Rizzoli & Isles as Dr. Maura Isles from 2010 to 2016. Since then, she has continued to work in television, both directing and producing, including an episode of You and the final season of Bull alongside her former NCIS co-star Michael Weatherly.
