The NCIS franchise continues to expand with new spinoffs and fresh storylines — but one thing remains constant: the flagship series isn’t slowing down. While some shows have wrapped, the original NCIS is moving confidently into its 23rd season, and with it comes a notable schedule shift for fall 2025.
Here’s everything we know so far, from renewal updates to cast news, plot teasers, and what’s happening across the NCIS universe.
NCIS Season 23: When Was It Renewed?
CBS renewed NCIS for Season 23 in February 2025, alongside eight other returning shows.
CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach celebrated the renewal, saying the network remains committed to delivering “the biggest hits with mass appeal,” highlighting both longstanding favorites and rising successes.
When Will Season 23 Premiere?
A specific premiere date hasn’t been revealed yet, but NCIS is expected to return as part of the fall 2025 lineup — most likely in late September or early October.
The bigger news? The series is moving back to its Tuesdays at 8/7c time slot after airing on Mondays since Season 19. It will lead an all-NCIS night, followed by:
-
NCIS: Origins
-
NCIS: Sydney
Who’s Returning for Season 23?
As of now, all major players are expected to return — and the Season 22 finale left every character alive and still with the agency. The cast includes:
-
Sean Murray as Timothy McGee
-
Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres
-
Brian Dietzen as Dr. Jimmy Palmer
-
Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines
-
Katrina Law as Jessica Knight
-
Rocky Carroll as Director Leon Vance
-
Gary Cole as Alden Parker
There have been no reports suggesting any departures.
How Did Season 22 End?
The finale centered on Parker’s escalating conflict with mob boss Carla Marino (Rebecca De Mornay). After she kidnapped him and blamed him for her son’s death, Parker returned home to a devastating discovery — his father dead.
The episode also teased a potential cover-up related to the original autopsy report of Parker’s mother.
What’s in Store for Season 23?
While CBS hasn’t released an official synopsis, executive producer Steven D. Binder previewed the emotional fallout heading Parker’s way.
Parker will be:
-
unstable, vengeful, and “out for blood”
-
acting in a way that’s highly uncharacteristic — but fully justified
-
echoing past “man on fire” arcs like Gibbs and Bishop
Binder hinted at significant internal conflict within the team:
“You’ll have a team trying to protect him, talk him off a ledge, maybe even get between him and his target. It’s going to create a ton of conflict.”
Meanwhile, Palmer’s discovery about Parker’s mother’s death certificate suggests a deeper conspiracy — one that could launch a major season-long mystery.
Binder added that Season 23 aims to explore characters and personal stories more deeply than ever:
“We’re really hoping to dive into our characters’ lives, journeys, and pain in a way we haven’t before.”
Is There a Trailer Yet?
Not yet — it’s too early in the production cycle.
What Other NCIS Shows Are Returning in 2025–2026?
Several series are joining NCIS next season:
-
NCIS: Origins — renewed for Season 2
-
NCIS: Sydney — renewed for Season 3
-
NCIS: Tony & Ziva — a new spinoff starring Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo, premiering on Paramount+ in fall 2025
With multiple active shows and new stories unfolding, the NCIS universe remains stronger than ever.
