I’ve covered TV, music and pop culture for over 6 years.
Viewers last saw a new Chicago Fire episode almost two weeks ago. If you’re planning to watch a new episode this week, you’ll to wait a little while longer. When do new episodes of Chicago Fire come out? Read on to find out.
Chicago Fire is Dick Wolf’s successful firefighter drama that’s run for 12 seasons on NBC. The latest season of the procedural returned on January 17 after production delays stemming from the now-resolved Hollywood strikes. Season 12 has been averaging more than 9 million weekly viewers, making it the most-watched entertainment program on all of NBC and the No. 3 drama on broadcast TV, according to TV Line.
Season 12 of the procedural has been an action-packed one. Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) and Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) tied the knot, the Firehouse 51 crew welcomed a new firefighter, Derrick Gibson (Rome Flynn), and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) and Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) are still working out their relationship bumps amid Severide’s absences.
The last episode of Chicago Fire, Season 12, Episode 6, “Port in the Storm,” featured the anticipated wedding of Brett and Casey and the farewell of the beloved Paramedic in Charge. Killmer told Deadline that shooting her last episode was “bittersweet, but more sweet than bitter, for sure.” She added that she loved that one of her final moments as Brett was “one giant party that helped make it a great send-off.”
Ahead of the farewell episode, Killmer told TV Line that she felt like her time as Sylvie was over, and she’s excited to see what other projects are out there. “It’s definitely been so humbling and aspirational to be playing a first responder for this long. I couldn’t be happier to have been in this story space, getting to work with real firefighters and paramedics this long,” the actress explained.
Killmer continued, “If you’re going to spend 10 years somewhere, you want to spend it in a place like our show, for sure. But yeah, I’m very excited to see what else is out there on the horizon. There’s a lot of interesting content that’s being created right now. And I’m very satisfied with where things end up for Sylvie on Fire.”
Instead of replacing Sylvie with a new character, Chicago Fire promoted one of their own. Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) will become the new Paramedic in Charge. “That’s part of the great Violet journey this year, as she continues to grow as a character and gets to step into a leadership position on ambo, too,” series showrunner Andrea Newman told TVLine.
When Do New Episodes Of Chicago Fire Come Out?
New episodes of Chicago Fire Season 12 will resume on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, with its seventh episode, “Red Flag.” All three One Chicago shows, including Chicago Med and Chicago P.D., are on a two-week hiatus.
According to the next episode’s logline, “Violet clashes with her new partner; Severide discovers a hidden stash of money on a call and squares off against the cops working the case; Mouch gets a parking ticket.”
Why Is Chicago Fire On A Hiatus?
Chicago Fire has to air reruns in Season 12 because of last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Filming for the current season couldn’t commence until November 2023, so Chicago Fire had to opt for a shorter season with gaps between some episodes. TV Line previously reported that Season 12 will have around 13 episodes, marking the shortest season of the procedural.
Season 12 of Chicago Fire began with four weeks of new episodes followed by a re-run, two new episodes, then reruns. The last new episode of the procedural aired on Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
