We finally got the trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, which will be the newest Star Wars series that will be available on Disney+ soon. This is an animated series that will follow six different short episodes that will follow the stories of different Jedi. So, in that regard, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is an animated anthology that is not unlike Star Wars: Visions in the sense that every episode has its own story. So, when and where is Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi set?
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi has a different setting and time period that depend on the episode and the Jedi that the episode will follow. Of course, most of the episodes will take place in the past and in different locales because Tales of the Jedi is going to allow us to see the origin stories of a few notable Jedi.
While there have been a lot of Star Wars stories that happen after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, there haven’t been a lot of projects that explore the events well before the prequel trilogy movies. In that regard, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi serves as the series that will allow us to understand the lives of certain Jedi like Count Dooku and Ahsoka Tano before they became Jedi. Now, let’s look at the time period and setting of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi.
When Is Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi Set?
We all know that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is going to be the newest addition to what is already a large and vast Star Wars lore that only keeps on getting bigger and bigger. But the one thing we are yet to see is the storyline involving some of the most notable Jedi that we saw during the course of the entire Star Wars narrative. And that is Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi comes in.

Of course, Lucasfilm tends to be quite strict in relation to what is canon and what is not to the Star Wars universe, and that means that fans need to know when some of the certain Star Wars storylines take place so that they would see how these stories fit into the larger narrative of the Star Wars canon. So, in that regard, when is Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi set?
The one thing that fans should know about Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is that this is an animated anthology series. What that means is that every episode follows a different story, as that is what an anthology means. On top of that, the episodes also follow different stories surrounding different notable Jedi that we have met in the Star Wars lore.
As such, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi doesn’t exactly follow a precise and exact time period because the different stories follow different Jedi and take place in different time periods in the Star Wars lore. But what we can be sure of is that most of the episodes in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi take place before the prequel movies.
Star Wars: Every Upcoming Disney+ Series
For one, the Ahsoka episodes seem to explore Ahsoka Tano’s childhood years. That means that these episodes probably take place somewhere before or after Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace but probably before the events of Episode II: Attack of the Clones. We also saw in the trailer that there was an Inquisitor that attacked Ahsoka, and that could mean that one of the episodes takes place after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, when Ahsoka was now on the run.
Of course, we also know that there would be episodes that are dedicated to Count Dooku’s story. In the trailer, we saw a very young Dooku who was still training Qui-Gon Jin, who used to be his Padawan learner. That means that these episodes of Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi took place decades before Episode I, considering that Qui-Gon was already an older man during his death.
In the trailer, we also saw Dooku as a middle-aged man fighting alongside Mace Windu. This could mean that this episode takes place a few years before the events of Episode I, considering that Dooku was no longer with the Jedi Order during the events of Phantom Menace.
While we cannot give an exact time setting for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, it is clear that most of the episodes take place before the events of the prequel trilogy, as the series was made to allow us to learn the history behind some of the Jedi that the anthology will follow.
Where Is Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi Set?
As mentioned, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is an anthology series that follows different events and characters in every episode. That is why there is no definite time period for the different episodes of this upcoming anthology series.
On top of the fact that there is no definite time setting for Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, there is also no definite setting for the series as far as the different places it will cover. As we saw in the trailer, the series will follow different stories that occur on different planets. For example, the Count Dooku episodes clearly take place on different planets.
Of course, it does seem like the Ahsoka episodes take place in definite settings. For example, her childhood years probably take place in Shili, which is the homeworld of her species called Togruta. Meanwhile, we also saw episodes wherein Anakin was training Ahsoka using Clone Troopers. That could mean that these episodes take place in Coruscant or on one of the military bases of the Republic during the Clone Wars.
All that said, it is more than possible that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi will allow us to see different planets that we have never seen before in any of the previous Star Wars projects. And it is possible that these planets are going to be featured in the Count Dooku episodes.
Is Star Wars: Tales Of The Jedi Canon?
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is not the first animated anthology series that Lucasfilm released on Disney+. In fact, the first one came in the form of Star Wars: Visions, which is a true anthology in the sense that none of the episodes connect with one another or with the greater Star Wars lore. On top of that, Visions follows different art and animation styles in every episode.

Of course, Star Wars: Visions was never canon because the events in this anthology series are well outside the constraints of what is traditionally canon in the Star Wars universe. But what about Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi? Is Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi canon?
Considering that Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi tells the history of some of the famous Jedi heroes and villains that we have seen in the Star Wars continuity, it goes without saying that this anthology series is part of the Star Wars canon. After all, there would be no point in telling the history behind characters like Count Dooku or Ahsoka Tano if these stories weren’t even canon at all.
