Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage pilot is supposed to feature Mary, but it’s curious why Zoe Perry isn’t in the Young Sheldon sequel’s live-taping. Sheldon’s childhood in Texas wrapped up with the Young Sheldon finale, which was preceded by the unexpected death of George. While its first half dealt with the loss, the latter shifted its focus on transitioning Sheldon to his new life in Pasadena, California. Granted that CBS was forced to end Young Sheldon despite its popularity because of Sheldon’s established timeline, life continues for his family in Texas as he begins a new one in Caltech.
That’s where the idea for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage came from. Motivated by the rest of the Coopers’ grown popularity, their story in Texas continues via Georgie and Mandy’s life as new parents to Baby Cece. Unfortunately, none of Georgie’s side of the family will be series regulars. Despite technically being a Young Sheldon follow-up, its creators wanted to differentiate it from its parent show, the same way The Big Bang Theory was distinct from its prequel. Admittedly, this has been a controversial take. But at the very least, some Coopers are confirmed to make cameos — including Perry’s Mary.
After her stint in Young Sheldon, Mary will officially be replaced by a more dangerous matriarch in CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Mary & Meemaw Are Confirmed To Appear In Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Pilot
Zoe Perry And Annie Potts Are Reprising Their Respective Roles
The events of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage will take place just a month or two after Young Sheldon’s ending. With not so much separation between the shows, there’s an expectation that the latter will refer to the events of its parent series. Beyond that, it’s uncertain how much connection it will have to The Big Bang Theory prequel, considering that it will shift its focus to the McAllisters. To establish its ties to Young Sheldon, however, it was subsequently announced that Zoe Perry, Raegan Revord, and Annie Potts will be back for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.
Seeing Sheldon’s mom and sister after Young Sheldon will be a treat. However, they will only be involved in its first two episodes. Mary and Meemaw will be in the Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage pilot, while Missy will be in the second episode. Plot specifics about their appearances are still unclear at this point, but it shouldn’t be a surprise that the trio finds themselves spending time with Georgie & Mandy. After the Young Sheldon season 6 finale tornado forced them to be crammed with the Coopers, the pair eventually moved with the McAllisters, who just live across town.
Zoe Perry Isn’t In Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Pilot Live-Taping
Potts Attends The First Live-Taping For Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage But Not Her On-Screen Daughter
Production for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage has been going on for quite a while now. Updates from the people involved in the show have been keeping the public excited about the new show. Unlike Young Sheldon, however, which was a single-cam set-up, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is a multi-cam similar to The Big Bang Theory. This means that it will be filmed in front of a live studio audience. The sitcom’s first-ever show was just shot, as confirmed by various social media posts from people in attendance, including several cast members of Young Sheldon.
Interestingly, however, not only was Perry not in any of the photos from the session, but she wasn’t also in the final curtain call. After the end of a live studio filming session, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage pilot brought its whole cast out. In a video by Molly Sasso on Instagram, however, the roll call didn’t include Perry. That said, Potts was in it, reprising as Meemaw. Previously, her involvement was also confirmed via a separate promotional video. Considering this, it’s curious why Sheldon’s mother wasn’t in the sequel’s premiere show when she was confirmed to be there.
Chuck Lorre recently offered an update about the second The Big Bang Theory in the works, and now, I am doubtful that it will ever happen.
Mary’s Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage’s Pilot Live Taping Absence Can Be Explained
Perry’s Scenes Are Filmed During Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Pilot’s Closed-Door Set
Understandably, this can be concerning. It was only during the TCA summer press tour that it was announced that all three Cooper female family members would appear in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. That said, there is actually a way to explain Mary’s absence from the show’s pilot’s live studio taping — Perry’s Zoe isn’t going to be part of those scenes filmed in front of an audience. Despite its multi-cam set-up, there are still sequences from an episode that is filmed closed-door, which means there is no one there on the set other than the cast and the crew.

This has been confirmed by a new image from the set of Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. After the Young Sheldon sequel series’ live-taping earlier in the week, work continues for it as the people involved shot the rest of the scenes for the pilot. On her official Instagram account, Emily Osment shares a behind-the-scenes image of their work over the weekend, where she is joined by her co-lead, Montana Jordan, as well as Potts and Perry. This marks the first look at Mary’s comeback for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage since her rather unsatisfying ending in Young Sheldon.
Why Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage Needs Mary To Appear
The Big Bang Theory Canon Mandates Mary Maintains Ties With Georgie
Considering their proximity, it will be more suspicious if Georgie and Mandy don’t see Mary and the rest of the Coopers still in Texas throughout the events of their show. Even when they moved out of George and Mary’s house and into the McAllisters, the couple would come by from time to time, especially when they needed childcare. Aside from that, however, The Big Bang Theory canon also mandates Georgie to keep in close contact with his mom and sister on the heels of losing the Cooper patriarch.
Mary, Missy, and Meemaw will all return for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, but the manner of their comeback is disrespectful to Young Sheldon.
As Jerry O’Connell’s adult Georgie revealed to Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory season 11, he took care of their family on the heels of George’s death in 1994. The socially inept genius was unaware that his mother was too grief-stricken to function, hence why his older brother had to step in. Emphasizing this role for the character post-Young Sheldon was Georgie’s promise during George’s funeral about looking after the Coopers. Sheldon’s brother not regularly interacting with their mother effectively contradicts this established narrative.
On top of the narrative demanding Mary’s appearance, it will also be a big waste if Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage doesn’t try to take advantage of the Coopers’ continued popularity. Ending Young Sheldon was controversial because it was so popular when it wrapped up, and there was sadness over not being able to see the rest of Sheldon’s family outside Georgie, Mandy, and Baby Cece. Ideally, Mary, Missy, and Meemaw would have been series regulars in the sequel series, but a guest appearance to start is better than nothing.
