What surprises will Will Trent season 2 have regarding the character Uncle Antonio?

Will Trent has cast Uncle Antonio, revealing which season 2 episode will first introduce the long-awaited character. Ever since learning that his only living relative is his mother’s brother, Will has been trying to learn more about who his uncle really is. In season 2, episode 2, he created a profile of the mysterious man, hoping that doing so will provide him with answers about his past.

Now, TVLine reports that Will Trent season 2 has cast John Ortiz (American Fiction, Promised Land) as Uncle Antonio. He will debut in season 2, episode 6, “We Are Family,” which airs Tuesday, April 9. The episode will feature multiple scenes of him meeting Will for the first time as the GBI and APB investigate the death of a judge.

The origins of Will’s parents and the discovery of the mysteries of his family have been central parts of the series from the start. The long-running story of season 1 captures James Ulster, a serial killer who murdered his mother, Lucy, when he was a child. Season 2 sees the killer reveal Antonio’s name to Will, claiming to be his biological father despite a lack of evidence.

ABC has described Antonio as Will’s counterpart, hinting that the pair will get along as they get to know each other. This means that, despite Will Trent’s tragic start to season 2, there is still some hope that he will be able to get answers about his past from his uncle. If he discovers more truths about his family and parents, it could reveal whether James is actually his biological father.

Since season 2 only has 10 episodes to answer, it may not be until Will Trent season 3 that more specific information about his family tree comes to light. However, Antonio’s first appearance will open the door to digging up that information. Perhaps the episode where the pair finally meet will have more answers than expected — or raise new questions about the agent’s past.
