They’re our latest favorite ship in the ‘Ton.
As we anticipate the third season of Bridgerton, Netflix and Shonda Rhimes have granted us another expansion into the ‘Ton with the prequel series, Queen Charlotte. The show follows Charlotte as she navigates her marriage to King George and adjusts to her new role as the British Queen. Her love story with George sparked a societal shift, but in true Bridgerton fashion, it’s not the only romance we’re introduced to throughout the series.
In the six-episode limited series, we get a glimpse into the lives of palace workers, including the King’s secretary, Reynolds, and the Queen’s hand, Brimsley. The pair has a secret relationship as the first central queer storyline in Netflix’s period drama. In one of their final scenes together, we’re left wondering what happened between them as the future of their relationship is left open-ended. Ahead, find everything we know about the fate of Reynolds and Brimsley’s romance.
What happened to Reynolds and Brimsley?
It’s unclear what happened to Brimsley and Reynolds at the end of Queen Charlotte. In one of their last moments together on-screen, the young versions of the secret couple are seen dancing together before the show cuts to the Bridgerton point in time, where Brimsley is dancing alone. Based on the abrupt cut, it’s assumed that Reynolds either passed away or their relationship ended. Hugh Sachs, the actor who plays the older version of Brimsley, revealed what happened to our new favorite couple in the ‘Ton in his latest interview.
“There was a scene that we didn’t film because it was cut, where I was going to meet the older Reynolds,” Hugh told Vulture. “He was the love of his life, and for whatever reason, they could not stay together. So when they would pass each other in the passageway in the deleted scene, it wasn’t a toxic moment. Because of the world they inhabited, it was still a hangable offense to be gay, and it was just not possible.”
Hopefully, we get to see more of the duo in the upcoming season of Bridgerton, or at least hear their names referenced by the Queen. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get to see more LGBTQ+ romances unfold once new episodes of the beloved series are released.
