Since Sam Carver joined Firehouse 51 in Season 11 of Chicago Fire, there were hints of him having feelings for his lieutenant, Stella Kidd. However, as we move into Season 13, Carver’s romantic interests seem to have shifted. Instead of focusing on Stella, he has dated other women, leading fans to wonder if he still harbors any lingering feelings for her. Jake Lockett, who plays Carver, recently opened up about this storyline in an interview with TV Line, clarifying where things stand and why the show decided to move away from this potential love triangle.
Carver and Stella: A Romance That Never Took Off
When Carver first arrived at Firehouse 51, the chemistry between him and Stella was palpable, leaving fans speculating about a possible romantic twist. However, one major obstacle stood in the way: Kelly Severide, Stella’s husband and a beloved figure on the show. Lockett acknowledged that any storyline involving Stella would automatically involve Severide, making it a tricky situation. “Everyone who knows the show knows that Severide is a formidable person, so it wouldn’t have been the best move for Carver,” Lockett admitted.
Still, Lockett believes that Carver’s connection to Stella was more about unresolved feelings from the past rather than genuine love. He explained, “I think there was some history there… but love is a strong word. It was more about the unresolved emotions from their past. Walking into this situation brought back old feelings, and Carver had to figure out how to deal with it. I’m happy with the direction the show took because it was ultimately better for Carver’s growth.”
Carver and Violet: A Better Match?
In Season 13, the focus shifted from Stella to Violet, leading to a new romantic storyline for Carver. It all started with a broken light bulb moment, sparking a connection between the two. Lockett expressed his excitement about this development, praising his co-star Hanako Greensmith, who plays Violet. “I love working with Hanako. She’s fantastic, and Violet is such a bold, fearless character. She’s willing to take on anyone, which makes her a great match for Carver,” Lockett shared. He felt that pairing Carver with Violet was a smart move, as it allowed the character to explore new dynamics without the complications that came with his feelings for Stella.
Lockett believes this shift was the right call for Carver’s character arc. “This transition gave Carver a chance to grow in ways that wouldn’t have been possible with Stella. Instead of getting stuck in a situation that had no future, he leaned into his role at the firehouse and developed a more organic relationship with Violet,” Lockett explained.
What’s Next for Carver and Violet?
While the romance between Carver and Violet started off strong, recent episodes have hinted at possible troubles ahead. Despite the challenges, there seems to be more potential for growth in this relationship than there ever was with Stella. Lockett hinted that the upcoming episodes will dive deeper into the complexities of their dynamic, offering fans more twists and turns to look forward to.
