Wednesday star’s new movie debuts with dismal Rotten Tomatoes rating

Wednesday’s Emma Myers has a brand-new Netflix movie out, but the critics haven’t been too kind.

Titled Family Switch, it’s a spin on the classic body-swap genre involving a family of four. Jess and Bill Walker, played by Jennifer Garner and Ed Helms, trade places with their kids (Myers and Brady Noon) at Christmas.

Over on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is currently sitting at a low score of 17%.
Incase you’re thinking of checking out McG’s Family Switch over the holidays, make sure to read these review snippets first:

The Guardian

“No doubt, countless households will give this Cringe-mas comedy a shot over their winter breaks. Hearts will be lukewarmed, and perhaps families will come together as newly minted McG fans, but with a renewed appreciation for their individual passions. And maybe if any of them are aspiring filmmakers, they’ll think twice before stuffing every gimmick imaginable into a single feature.”

The Hollywood Reporter

“The body-swap comedy isn’t good so much as it is completely and totally innocuous. Its characters are drawn in the broadest of strokes and the plot points unfold along creakily predictable beats, but it’s too blandly sweet to be irritating or offensive.

“If you’re just looking to fill a movie-shaped hole in your holiday plans, that might make it passable enough.”
Deadline

“A game cast includes Garner and Helms appearing to have a blast, and the appealing Myers and Noon joining them in adopting the ideal physicality to pull this all off but also the smarts not to let it sail over the top.

“This is just pure family fun, nothing more. But thankfully, nothing less.”

IndieWire

“McG brings his signature direction to the film that makes it an easy watch and, of course, everything is solved for the Walkers by Christmas morning. And while Garner’s very specific lovable body swap talent is a weird one-note to play, the actress just does it too well. Why not keep the tune going? Sequel, anyone?”
