“We Had to Film It Twice”: The Wedding Scene That Was Ruined by a Real Argument

Christian and Ana’s wedding in Fifty Shades Freed looked picture-perfect—but behind the scenes, tensions were boiling. During the original shoot, Johnson and Dornan reportedly argued over how Christian should act in the ceremony.

Dakota wanted him to appear warm and emotionally vulnerable. Jamie insisted Christian would be stoic, barely showing emotion. The fight escalated, and the scene fell flat.

Cameras rolled on a version that felt stiff and distant. Dakota left the set frustrated. Jamie stayed in character for hours, refusing to break. One crew member said, “It was like filming a breakup—not a wedding.”

Producers reviewed the footage and ordered a reshoot days later. The second take—more romantic, with improvised vows—became the version used. This time, Dornan softened, holding Ana’s hand longer and kissing her forehead tenderly.

“That scene was a battle,” said a crew member. “And it shows how personal the roles had become. They weren’t just acting—they were fighting for who their characters were.”
