Wait, That’s Sheldon? Iain Armitage Turns 17 and the Internet Can’t Handle It

Iain Armitage, who rose to stardom as nine-year-old Sheldon Cooper on Young Sheldon, turned 17 years old on Tuesday and looks all grown up!

Earlier this week, Armitage posted an Instagram photo showing just how different he looks these days in comparison to his early days as little Sheldon. Of course, those adorable cheeks are still present!

Dressed in a sports coat and wearing his hair in a fresh cut, Armitage smiled for the photo.

“Summer nights…,” he captioned the joyful shot.

While he hasn’t headed to another series since the beloved show ended its run in 2024, Armitage is enjoying his time exploring other interests, including flying.

“I just got my pilot’s license, or my student pilot’s license,” he told PEOPLE last year. “I hopefully will get my private [pilot ’s license] when I’m 17. And I’ve been having a bunch of fun flying while I’m here in L.A.”

However, that doesn’t mean he won’t be back on TV screens soon.

“I’m definitely doing auditions and stuff,” he added.

Just last month, it was announced that Armitage will head to the big screen opposite Martin Freeman in The Adam Trials, a psychological thriller with a sci-fi twist, according to Deadline. Directed by Ben Ketai, the film will tell the story of two parents who will do anything to save the life of their terminally ill son, employing experimental nanotechnology that starts to show signs of success but at a dark cost, Deadline continued.

“This movie has been a dream of mine for quite some time now, as has the opportunity to work with Martin again,” Ketai, who worked with him on the Crackle series StartUp, told Deadline. “Now with Iain’s talent in the mix, I am counting the seconds until we start rolling.”

Sounds like Sheldon’s headed to the big screen!
