Virgin River’s Tim Matheson spills major season seven update as he calls co-stars his ‘family’
Virgin River season seven was confirmed to be in the works earlier this year and Tim Matheson has just revealed a major update
Tim Matheson, star of Virgin River, has shared an exciting update about the seventh season of the popular drama, more than a month before the sixth series is due to land on Netflix.
The small-town romance, which follows the love story of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), has been captivating audiences for five years and has built up a fanbase in the millions.
Earlier this year, Netflix announced that Virgin River would be returning for a seventh season, making it their longest ongoing drama and their longest-running English-language series to date.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the return of Mel and Jack, with the new series set to air on Thursday, December 19, a year after the show’s memorable Christmas double bill in 2023.
After a well-deserved Christmas break, Matheson has revealed that filming for the seventh season will officially kick off in March 2025, reports the Express.
This suggests that we can expect the release of the seventh season towards the end of 2025 or possibly at the start of 2026.
Matheson, who has played Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins in every season of Virgin River, spoke warmly about his co-stars, describing them as a “family”.
“I love the feeling of the show, and also the cast and crew have all become like family,” he said.
“So it’s really wonderful that we all now think of each other as family. It is one of my favourite experiences, and I love the show.”
In an intimate chat with Anna Daly about his autobiography Damn Glad to Meet You: My Seven Decades in the Hollywood Trenches, the actor shared his fondness for Doc Mullins, a character he’s enjoyed among many in his extensive TV career.
“I love playing Doc Mullins because I’ve played a lot of doctors, and I did a lot of research about country doctors who work in small towns, where you know all of your patients,” Matheson revealed.
“It’s a different kind of connection with the people you serve.
“When you walk down the street, you see them; you see them at the bar at night. It’s a different kind of medicine, really.
“This is the story of a guy who left the big city to get back to treating patients one-on-one, and I love that.”
Ahead of Virgin River’s sixth season, Netflix viewers are excitedly anticipating a dramatic wedding between Mel and Jack.
Elsewhere in the series, Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) seems to be a few months pregnant, Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) finds himself embroiled in more dubious dealings, and the love story between Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia (Kandyse McClure) shows no signs of fading.
