Virgin River’s Tim Matheson confirms season 7 filming update after historic Netflix renewal

Virgin River’s Tim Matheson – who has played Doc Mullins since the first season of the Netflix drama – has confirmed when season seven will begin filming

Virgin River’s very own Tim Matheson has shared some thrilling news on the progress of season seven, well ahead of the premiere of season six on Netflix.

This beloved drama, centring on the love story of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), captured hearts and gained millions of fans over the past five years.

Netflix gave the nod earlier this year for a seventh series, which now ranks as their longest-running drama and tops the list for their English-language shows in longevity.

As the countdown begins, fans can eagerly anticipate the return of Mel and Jack on Thursday, December 19, following a captivating Christmas double episode in 2023.

Post-Yuletide festivities, Matheson divulged that the cameras will roll again for season seven in March 2025, reports the Express.

This schedule hints at a late 2025 or maybe an early 2026 release date for the upcoming season.

Matheson, who has been the steadfast Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins across all seasons, fondly spoke about how the cast and crew have bonded into something akin to a “family”.

“I love the feeling of the show, and also the cast and crew have all been congealed into family,” he expressed.

“So it’s really wonderful that we all now think of each other as family. It is one of my favourite experiences, and I love the show.”

In a recent interview with Anna Daly, the actor opened up about his new memoir Damn Glad to Meet You: My Seven Decades in the Hollywood Trenches and shared insights into why Doc has been one of his most cherished roles throughout his extensive career on television.

“I love playing Doc Mullins because I’ve played a lot of doctors, and I did a lot of research about country doctors who work in small towns, where you know all of your patients,” Matheson revealed.

“It’s a different kind of connection with the people you serve.

“When you walk down the street, you see them; you see them at the bar at night. It’s a different kind of medicine, really.

“This is the story of a guy who left the big city to get back to treating patients one-on-one, and I love that.”

Fans of Netflix’s Virgin River are bracing themselves for another emotional season as the show gears up for a highly anticipated wedding between Mel and Jack in its sixth instalment.

Meanwhile, Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) seems to be visibly pregnant, Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) continues to navigate through murky waters, and the relationship between Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia (Kandyse McClure) remains solid.
