Tim Matheson and Annette O’Toole, who play Doc Mullins and Hope McCrea on Netflix’s Virgin River, have a long history — dating back over 40 years.
O’Toole revealed in an exclusive interview that she and Matheson first met while he was filming Almost Summer with her then-boyfriend Bruno Kirby. Soon after, they played a married couple on the ’70s TV series What Really Happened to the Class of ’65?. Their collaborations didn’t stop there; they later worked together on The Best Legs in Eighth Grade, an hour-long TV play.
“I have a lovely relationship with him,” O’Toole said. “It’s really great to work with him and to be directed by him as well.” Matheson has even directed four episodes of Virgin River, adding another layer to their longtime professional connection.
