A new season of the highly cherished Netflix romance series, Virgin River, is expected on small screens soon, as filming began earlier in July; however, a premiere date has yet to be announced. To keep fans busy till a date drops, one of the show’s stars’ older productions, also love-themed, is a must-watch on Netflix, where it has quickly become a favorite among subscribers globally, getting into the Top 10 on the streaming charts.
Titled Romance In Style, the Hallmark movie was released on Aug 13, 2022, and stars Virgin River fan-favorite Ben Hollingsworth as publishing mogul Derek. Exactly two years after its debut, it has found new life on Netflix, where it is now the #7 movie globally as of this writing, while also ranking in the Top 5 in some countries. Its 136 points comes closely behind Happy Gilmore 2’s 164 points, and leading the charts is Vanessa Kirby’s Night Always Comes. Meanwhile, rounding out the Top 10 are 2005’s Elektra, the 2009 comedy The Hangover, and the 2023 animation Migration.
In Romance In Style, Ella, portrayed by Jaicy Elliot, crafts several unique designs that inspire Hollingsworth’s Derek to include plus-sized fashion in his magazine. Soon, Derek begins to realize that Ella’s influence reaches far beyond the catwalk. The movie also stars Candice Huffine. In terms of reception, it has received average reviews since its release, with an audience score of 61% on Rotten Tomatoes, although it still lacks a Tomatometer rating.
Ben Hollingsworth Will Return in ‘Virgin River’ Season 7
Avid Virgin River fans recognize Hollingsworth for his role as Dan Brady in the series adaptation, who was introduced as a fellow younger veteran who served in the Marines with Jack (Martin Henderson). The character, who is seen as someone struggling to readjust to civilian life, is expected to return in the upcoming Season 7, which was announced on October 23, 2024, ahead of the Season 6 finale.
In addition to Hollingsworth, the returning Virgin River cast includes Alexandra Breckenridge, Henderson, Tim Matheson, Annette O’Toole, Colin Lawrence, Zibby Allen, Sarah Dugdale, Marco Grazzini, Kai Bradbury, and Kandyse McClure. While the streaming favorite still has no return date, it has already been renewed for an eighth season on July 10, 2025, months after The Vampire Diaries’ alum Sara Canning and Riverdale’s Cody Kearsley were added to the Season 7 cast.
