According to showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, the twist was intentional. He explained that keeping their story unpredictable helps maintain emotional stakes and prevents their relationship from feeling too easy or rushed toward a traditional happy ending.
Throughout the series, Brie has struggled to fully trust Brady, and those lingering challenges helped shape the foundation of their connection. Now, just as they seemed ready to move forward together, a new crisis threatens to slow their progress again.
Even so, Smith reassured fans that their journey is still moving toward eventual happiness — just with a few more unexpected turns along the way.
