Virgin River Season 6 Delivers 10 Game-Changing Twists in Finale, Including Mel’s Troubling Discovery
In a season full of surprises, Virgin River managed to save its biggest for last.
Now streaming on Netflix, Season 5 Part 1 wraps with a series of game-changing developments for the (mostly) good people of Virgin River, all of which we can’t wait to see play out when Season 5 resumes with Part 2 on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Sadly, we do have to wait, so let’s pass the time with a breakdown of the biggest twists from Episode 10. Our list includes several romantic moments, an arrest and a possible future arrest, a return from the “dead,” a paternity reveal, a life-changing health decision, and a discovery that will make Mel question absolutely everything. And that’s not even including the time jump! Dang, this show gives good finale.
Grade Season 5 Part 1 in our poll below, then read on for a recap of the finale’s must-discuss moments. When you’re done, drop a comment with your thoughts on the season, as well as your hopes for Part 2.
Melissa Goes to Prison!
We’ll start with the good news: this villainous Margo Martindale type is finally behind bars. It took Jack and Brady getting beat up, plus poor Mike getting shout (ouch!), but Nick’s evil sister is at last out of the picture. (Side note: Is there anyone more useless than Nick? Not only did he make a terrible replacement mayor, but he also had absolutely no idea what Melissa was really up to this whole time. No. Use.)
Muriel and Cameron Go Public!
Well, this ought to give the Sewing Circle something to talk about: After coming clean to Doc about pursuing a romantic relationship with a coworker, Muriel came clean to the entire town by kissing Cameron at the carnival. They were barely out of frame before Jo Ellen started dialing that phone — she was ready. Just like Muriel is ready to finally be in a happy, healthy relationship. She deserves to be so much more than just a thorn in Hope’s side.
Lizzie Is Pregnant!
Or at least she thinks she might be pregnant. Either way, we’re curious to see how Denny reacts to Lizzie’s news, considering he just asked her to follow him to med school. Why are these two determined to break our hearts like this?
Brady Moves On!
Well, that didn’t take long. Mere milliseconds after being dumped by Brie, Brady agreed to go on an official date with Lark, the mother of the girl he and Jack saved during the wildfire. Apparently their game of Pretty Pretty Princess didn’t count as a first date, which is odd because we truly can’t imagine anything more romantic.
Brie and Mike Make It Official!
Then again, Brie isn’t exactly putting her life on hold either. She and Mike agreed that splitting hospital milkshakes totally counted as a first date, and they both seem pretty eager to move on to date No. 2.
Doc Is Doing the Trials!
With Hope’s blessing, Doc took an open spot in the clinical trials for a treatment to prevent vision loss. The trial begins early in the new year, so we’re sure Doc (and Hope, who are we kidding?) will be a nervous wreck when the show returns for Part 2 this fall.
Preacher’s In Big Trouble!
Kaia sticking around Virgin River sounded like a very good thing for Preacher… until her boss unearthed a corpse that could very well belong to the man her new boyfriend helped his ex-girlfriend bury. Kaia thought dating Preacher in the middle of her divorce from Jay was “complicated,” but she doesn’t know the meaning of that word. Yet.
Calvin Is Charmaine’s Baby Daddy!
This was the type of paternity reveal that would have left Maury Povich floored. After giving a big speech about how happy she is to be standing on her own two feet, Charmaine was approached by a most unwelcome face. Not only is that S.O.B. Calvin still alive, but he’s also — wait for it — the father of her twins! How and why and when all of the other questions!
Mel Gets Life-Changing News!
OK, it’s time for the big one. Everything before this was merely an appetizer. We’ve now reached the meal.
Following a festive time jump (it’s finally Christmas!), Mel received a potentially life-changing phone call from Joey, who always knows how to bring the drama. (It’s never just “Hi, how’s it going?” with her, is it?) Anyway, Joey found a bunch of old love letters sent between their late mother and a mystery man who lives in Virgin River. That was the shot. The chaser? Whoever this guy is, he might be Mel’s biological father!
