Virgin River season 5: the showrunner defends the choice of the father of Charmaine’s twins
Some fans found it a bit far-fetched, others were downright disappointed… The showrunner of Virgin River, for his part, is amused by the idea he had to play the father of Charmaine’s twins.
The last episode of part 1 of season 5 of Virgin River ended with a huge revelation! [Warning, spoilers] Fans finally know the identity of the real father of Charmaine’s twins. We still have trouble imagining Calvin in this role that he wants to play in the lives of his children… A choice totally assumed by Patrick Sean Smith, the showrunner of the most feel-good series on Netflix. “We looked at all the possibilities and we went down the Brady and Mike route, but Calvin made the most sense. That was my first instinct at first, because of his history with Jack and the fact that they hate each other so much. If Charmaine was desperate and wanted to hurt Jack, it made sense that she would go to her nemesis and bond with him,” Patrick Sean Smith told Glamour.
Virgin River: Twins’ father “came back from the dead”
“Since they didn’t find Calvin’s body in the explosion, I thought, ‘He’s coming back from the dead to be Charmaine’s twins’ father,’ and it was soapy and delicious. It was a lot of fun to come up with that idea,” the showrunner said, using a little line from Charmaine about going to Calvin’s places to make him the twins’ father. Will the upcoming episodes of Part 2 revisit Charmaine and Calvin’s relationship? According to Patrick Sean Smith, that shouldn’t happen. “That doesn’t mean we couldn’t,” he says, however.
Virgin River season 5: Todd’s behavior finally explained
As for Todd, Charmaine’s ex who was ready to assume paternity of the twins, “we’ll understand better what’s going on,” says the showrunner. “It’s really fun to find an explanation for the madness of a character that you don’t know if he had a clear intention at the beginning, but when you can find a way to explain it, I think it’s worth it,” says Patrick Sean Smith. The latter also discussed the Christmas episodes of Virgin River and the long-awaited wedding of Mel and Jack.
