Virgin River Is Returning for Season 8

Alert the phone tree and convene the sewing circle, because there’s some major Virgin River news headed your way: The series has been renewed for Season 8. That means another year of adventures with your favorite small-town California residents.

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith tells Tudum.

Virgin River follows nurse practitioner Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) as she moves from the big city to the picturesque titular Northern California town — and falls in love with rough-around-the-edges bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson). When we last left the happy couple in the Season 6 finale, they had finally tied the knot and were ready to experience life as newlyweds.

“Season 7 will find Mel and Jack taking their first steps into marriage as they start to plan for and build a life and family together. Meanwhile, Doc and Hope will work together to protect the clinic and the integrity of the town from outsiders,” Smith tells Tudum about the upcoming Season 7, which will welcome two new faces into the fold.

The just-confirmed Season 8 comes on the heels of Season 7 wrapping production, as it filmed in Vancouver (with a brief stop in Mexico!) throughout the first half of the year. Season 8 will consist of 10 episodes — although you’re going to have to wait a bit longer for those to hit Netflix, considering Season 7 is still in the works. But look on the bright side: That’s 20 new episodes of Virgin River to devour and discuss with your own sewing circle. Virgin River is Netflix’s longest-running current original scripted series, as well as the longest-running English-language drama series.
