Virgin River is back for a season 7… and will break a record

The coziest series in the Netflix catalog will soon be back to amaze us, thanks to its rustic magic and its love stories dripping with good feelings, with a season 6. And surprise (or not): Virgin River will even be back for a season 7. The opportunity to break an unexpected record.

Would you like some peace, serenity and love stories to enjoy by the fire? That’s good, Virgin River will enchant your end-of-year celebrations, thanks to a season 6, which will arrive on December 19, 2024 on Netflix. And since good news never comes alone, the streaming platform has even decided to renew, starting now, its flagship romantic series for a season 7. And thanks to these new episodes, Virgin River is taking the opportunity to break a surprising record.

Virgin River, stronger than The Crown or House of Cards

Two months before the release of season 6 of Virgin River, the cast of the Netflix comfort series announced on Instagram that the series would already be renewed for 10 new episodes. And this upcoming season 7 has a surprise in store: thanks to it, Virgin River will become the longest English-language drama series of all time on Netflix. Indeed, at the end of its season 7, production should therefore reach 74 episodes in total.

Does it seem surprising to you that such a figure can surpass other heavyweights in the Netflix catalog? Well, so do we. However, Virgin River manages to outstrip cult series like House of Cards (73 episodes) or The Crown (50 episodes). Only the 91 episodes of Orange is the New Black could compete with it, if it were not classified as a comedy-drama, and not just designated as a drama.

And Virgin River could well continue its momentum for a long time, since it is adapted from the novels of Robyn Carr. A saga that counts… 22 volumes. Clearly, fans will be able to enjoy the sweet life in the countryside, alongside Mel and Jack, for a long time to come.
