‘Virgin River’ Gets Early Season 8 Renewal at Netflix — Before Season 7 Even Premieres md14

Netflix isn’t waiting around: “Virgin River” has officially been renewed for Season 8, even though Season 7 still doesn’t have a premiere date.

Early renewals are nothing new for the hit drama. Netflix picked up Season 7 before Season 6 debuted in October 2024, continuing the trend for a series that has remained one of the platform’s strongest performers since launching in 2019. Season 6 alone stayed on the Netflix Top 10 for four weeks and hit a peak of 9.2 million views in its second week.

Based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling novels, “Virgin River” follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who moves to a quiet Northern California town to start over. There she meets former Marine-turned-bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), and the two quickly fall into a complicated romance. Season 6 featured their long-awaited wedding and explored long-buried secrets tied to Mel’s father and the town’s 1970s past. It also marked Henderson’s directing debut in Episode 8, “Going Overboard.”

The series stars Breckenridge and Henderson alongside Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Gurnsey, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, and Marco Grazzini.

Developed by Sue Tenney, “Virgin River” is run by Tenney and Patrick Sean Smith, who executive-produce with Robyn Carr, Amy Palmer Robertson, Roma Roth, Christopher E. Perry, Erin Cardillo, and Richard Keith.
