Virgin River fans say ‘much better’ show is the perfect watch while waiting for season 6
Virgin River has been compared to another show, which fans have said is even better and is the perfect watch while waiting for season six
Fans of the hit Netflix series Virgin River have been singing the praises of another drama with a strikingly similar premise that concluded nearly ten years ago.
The much-loved small-town romance has millions eagerly anticipating its sixth season, which is expected to drop before the year’s end.
In the interim, the dedicated fanbase has been debating the best shows to fill the void during Virgin River’s extended break.
One viewer recently recommended a series featuring a young woman readjusting to life in a small town, akin to Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge).
She not only takes on a role as a general practitioner (mirroring Mel’s nurse practitioner position), but also encounters a handsome bartender, befriends the mayor and her boss is played by none other than Tim Matheson, who Virgin River fans will recognise as Doc Mullins.
The show in question is The CW’s Hart of Dixie and, according to fans, it’s a surefire hit for those devoted to Virgin River.
A recent convert shared their thoughts on Reddit: “I just finished rewatching VR and while I’m waiting for s6 I just started watching the show called Hart of Dixie for the first time.
“It has a VERY similar storyline and bonus it has Doc in it! ! ! I’m only on s1e2 so no spoilers please but has anyone watched or going to watch it?”
Several more viewers chimed in with glowing recommendations for the Virgin River doppelganger.
“It’s been my favourite show since it aired back in 2011. So so funny! Enjoy!” one fan responded.
One fan expressed: “Hart of Dixie was one of my favourite shows!! You will love it.”
Another suggested: “Hart of Dixie was a much better show, primarily because the characters were quirkier and just more interesting. It was funnier too.
“Virgin River leans too much into the drama and ends up being too soap opera-ish.”
The original poster agreed, saying: “Yeah there’s something about it, I can’t put my finger on it but it’s better. Maybe it’s the actors are better at acting lol.”
Another viewer chimed in: “I watched it after VR and I learned about it here. I like it more than VR because it is light-hearted.”
