TVLine has your exclusive first look at Will Trent‘s highly anticipated family reunion.
As previously reported, Season 2, Episode 6 of the ABC drama (airing Tuesday at 8/7c) introduces Will’s long-lost uncle — Lucy Morales’ brother, Antonio Miranda (played by American Fiction’s John Ortiz). The network has described Antonio as “warm and charismatic,” and that much is evident from his introduction.
The following scene shows Will and Betty anxiously await his arrival. Moments later, the affable Antonio appears before them with his own canine companion — meet Portia!
Antonio and Will seem equally nervous — Antonio fears that he is underdressed once he sees his nephew in his signature three-piece suit; Will is fixated on impressing his uncle by introducing him to the best shrimp tacos in town — but all those nerves start to fade once Antonio embraces his sister’s son for the very first time.
Will Trent executive producer Liz Heldens previously teed up Uncle Antonio’s debut in a February interview with TVLine. “It’s very exciting because Will is [typically] surrounded by women,” such as Angie, Faith and Amanda, the EP pointed out. “He is surrounded by women, he listens to women, and he really respects women. But it’s fun, as we’re writing toward the end of the season, to ask ourselves what it looks like when Will has a really charismatic, male role model. What does that feel like with someone who is different from him?”
Will Trent was recently renewed for Season 3, which will premiere during the 2024-25 broadcast season. New Season 2 episodes continue to air Tuesdays at 8 pm on ABC (and stream next day on Hulu).
