The NCIS: Los Angeles series finale aimed to give fans a hopeful goodbye—and largely succeeded. Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill set out to offer each character their version of a happy ending, even if it wasn’t meant to be permanent.
In the final episode, Callen and Anna marry in a spontaneous ceremony, Sam finds hope for his father through a promising Alzheimer’s study, Kensi reveals she’s pregnant, and Rountree’s legal troubles are resolved. Nearly every storyline finds closure, allowing the team to step into a brighter future.
But one thread remains deliberately open: Hetty Lange.
Instead of attending the wedding, Hetty summons Callen and Sam to Morocco for a mysterious “side project.” There, they reunite with Nell and Nate—only to learn Hetty has gone missing and needs rescuing. Nell’s final question, “Are you ready for your next adventure?” leaves the series on an open-ended note.
It’s a fitting goodbye—suggesting that while the show has ended, the team’s mission never truly does.
