It’s giving crossover episode, but I’m here for it!
This just in: Taylor Swift was a full-on Twilight stan (yes, I know *technically* the correct term is Twi-hard, but I simply refuse to use it lol). In a recent interview on Ashley Greene’s podcast, The Twilight Effect, the movie franchise’s director Chris Weitz revealed that Taylor was nearly cast in The Twilight Saga: New Moon. How-ev-er!! He ended up turning her down in the end. *insert boo noises here*
“Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time, and he said, ‘Taylor would like to be in this movie—not because of you, but she’s a Twi-hard,’” Chris explained to Ashley, who played Alice Cullen in the series. He also recalls the agent telling him Taylor could play any role no matter how small, which is truly hilarious when you think about how big Tay is, but alas ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. “‘She will be someone at the cafeteria or the diner or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie,’” the director continued as he recounted the agent’s suggestions.
While Chris initially considered the pitch, he ultimately chose not to cast Taylor after all—a decision he still regrets to this day. “The hardest thing for me was to be like, ‘The moment that Taylor Swift walks onto the screen for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything,’” he said. Chris also dished that for a while, he worried about whether or not she was seriously angry at this situation, which…yeah, wouldn’t anyone be?! “She must’ve just been like, ‘Who is this jerk who would say no?’ But sometimes, you make decisions and you go, ‘This is for the best of the movie.’” Okay, noted!
More recently, Taylor did make a successful cameo at none other than her BFF Selena Gomez’s 30th B-Day celebrations. Sel shared photos of the milestone bash, including ones alongside Taylor while they enjoyed a summer evening outdoors with the caption “30, nerdy and worthy.”
The two have been close friends for years, and in 2014, the “All Too Well” songstress talked to E! News about the friendship, saying, “It’s been the longest one I think either of us has had, really.” She continued, “When your life changes…you become thrust into this really strange whirlwind where what your life is is different from what other people think your life is, and your life is commented on and your life is written about and fictionalized and all that. Both of us have kind of stuck it out and hang in there through all the different changes we’ve gone through.” Okay, forget Twilight—team Sel and Tay 4 ever 😭❤️.
