After months of anticipation Queen Charlotte finally arrived on Netflix yesterday (4th May), and it’s safe to say we are fully obsessed. The Bridgerton spin-off series tells the story of Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio) and King George’s (Corey Mylchreest) love story, as well as giving us insight into the earlier lives of Lady Danbury (Arsema Thomas) and Violet Bridgerton (Connie Jenkins-Greig).
The series also has a number of scenes in the current Bridgerton timeline too, with Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) trying to matchmake her children and Violet (Ruth Gemmell) contemplating potential romances. It’s in one of these scenes that many Bridgerton fans think they’ve found a slight spoiler for the upcoming Bridgerton season three.
In episode two “Honeymoon Bliss” around the nine minute mark we see a montage scene with Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews) speaking and Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) looking at an old house. It then cuts to Violet Bridgerton playing with not one, but two, children.
The eldest child is undoubtedly her first grandchild Augie Basset, aka Simon (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne’s (Phoebe Dynevor) child, who is playing with some toys. Violet is cradling a new born, who many fans are presuming to be Simon and Daphne’s second child. However, some fans are theorising it could also be Anthony and Kate’s first child.
One person wrote on Twitter: “OMG WAIT is one of the babies Daphne’s mom is watching is Simon and Daphne’s?”
Whilst another said: “WHO IS THE 2ND BABY ?? OMG DID KATE & ANTONY HAVE ONE OR DID DAPHNE HAVE ANOTHER ??!!”
So who does the second child belong to? Well, during a later scene in Queen Charlotte, Violet tells Lady Danbury her son and his wife (Anthony and Kate) are still on their honeymoon, so it’s safe to say the newborn is Simon and Daphne’s.
In the Bridgerton book series by Julia Quinn, Simon and Daphne go onto have five children of their own.
Unfortunately, we can’t get too excited about the possibility of seeing Simon and Daphne in season three with their growing family as Regé-Jean Page departed the series after the first season and Phoebe Dynevor recently announced she would not be returning for series three.
But maybe we can expect some more cute grandmother and grandchildren moments? Fingers crossed.
