Two More Seasons? Here’s What’s Coming Next for the Ghosts Cast

Ghosts is set to haunt CBS for many more years, as the U.S. adaptation of the hit BBC sitcom receives an impressive multi-season renewal order ahead of season 4’s conclusion. The cast of Ghosts includes Rose McIver’s and Utkarsh Ambudkar’s Sam and Jay as they inherit a decrepit manor from a recently deceased relative, only for Sam to suffer an incident that allows her to see the spirits of deceased figures who have called the land home across history. Ghosts has aired three complete seasons, with season 4 currently airing.

CBS has now shared an update on the state of many of its series, including a surprising positive development for the future of Ghosts. While season 4 has four more episodes set to air, the network has confirmed that the series has received an order for a fifth and sixth season after attracting 11 million multi-platform viewers, and a streaming viewership increase of 9% over a year. While no release date has been given for either season, CBS teased that the renewed show’s new episodes are expected to be released in 2026 and 2027.

The Series May Have An Opportunity To Fully Explore Its Own Path

For the CBS version of Ghosts, the series has met an interesting point in its run when compared to its predecessor’s run on the BBC from 2019 to 2023. BBC’s Ghosts ran for five seasons, meaning that the U.S. series is confirmed to run longer than its source material. As such, many may wonder if a multi-season order could have been given to help the crew behind the series to prepare for a definitive ending for the remainder of its run.

However, just because the original series wrapped up within five seasons does not mean that CBS’ Ghosts should have a similar lifespan. Even while the two series were running simultaneously between 2021 and 2023, the CBS adaptation had already made several deviations from the original series. Not only had the series’ cast gone on their own routes, but the series had different rules applied to the afterlife. As seen with the UK and American versions of The Office, a series doesn’t have to be completely faithful to its source material to find its own success.

No matter what Ghosts holds beyond season 6, it is clear that its success with audiences has solidified it as an asset to CBS. Now free from comparisons to the original UK series following its conclusion, it has the opportunity to truly set out its own path and define itself. As such, many viewers may be keen to see just how the series will develop going forward now that its foreseeable future has been guaranteed, potentially inspiring the artists behind it to be more daring and take creative risks in the coming seasons when answering Ghosts‘ lingering questions.
