The mind behind the Twilight books, Stephenie Meyer, has two cameo appearances in The Twilight Saga – and here’s where you’ll find them.
The Twilight Saga has various details that either foreshadow events or reference moments and characters from the books that didn’t make it to the movies, but it also has two cameos from the author of the novels, Stephenie Meyer – here’s where to find them. In 2005, Stephenie Meyer shared her unique version of vampires and werewolves with the rest of the world through her first novel, Twilight, which was also the first entry in a series of four novels. The core of the series was the often problematic romance between mortal Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen, and together, they came across many, many obstacles.
The Twilight novels quickly built a solid fanbase and became a worldwide phenomenon, though they weren’t safe from criticism. Still, this success made it possible for the series to make the jump to the big screen, and The Twilight Saga was released between 2008 and 2012, with the final novel, Breaking Dawn, being split into two movies. The Twilight Saga was met with a lot of criticism for the same things as the books, but it ultimately reached its goal of appeal to its target audience, particularly the fans of the books, who were also treated to two cameo appearances of the woman who made it all possible: Stephenie Meyer, who showed up in the first and the second-to-last movie of the saga.
First, is Twilight, which introduces the audience to Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), a 17-year-old who moves to Forks, Washington, from Phoenix, Arizona, to live with her father, Charlie Swan (Billy Burke). Once in Forks, she meets the mysterious Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson), who eventually reveals to her that he and his family are vampires, but they don’t feed on human blood. They soon come across their first obstacles: James (Cam Gigandet), Victoria (Rachelle Lefevre), and Laurent (Edi Gathegi), a group of vampires passing by who caught the scent of Bella. Before all that trouble begins, Twilight takes some time to show the dynamics between Bella and Charlie and follows them to dinner at a small, local place. It’s in that scene where Stephenie Meyer can be seen sitting at the counter, and it’s a cameo hard to miss as the camera focuses on her (as she’s in the foreground, with Charlie and Bella in the background) for a couple of seconds.
Meyer’s second and final cameo in the Twilight Saga was in Breaking Dawn – Part 1. The movie follows Edward and Bella as they finally get married, but it all gets complicated and dangerous during their honeymoon, as Bella (somehow) gets pregnant. This turns out to be extremely dangerous for her as the baby begins to feed off her blood, and the movie ends with a major cliffhanger, as it’s shown that Edward’s venom soothes Bella, and she wakes up now transformed into a vampire. Going back to the wedding of Bella and Edward, that’s where Stephenie Meyer’s second cameo can be found, as she’s among the guests, specifically next to Seth Clearwater. In an interview with Middletown Transcript in 2008, Stephenie Meyer shared she was “talked into” making a cameo appearance in Twilight as the producers thought it “would be cute for the fans” as most would definitely recognize her, which was probably the same reasoning behind her brief appearance in Breaking Dawn – Part 1.
Casually spotting Stephenie Meyer at the diner scene or among the guests at Bella and Edward’s wedding was surely a nice treat for Twilight fans, and it was a nice gesture from the producers to invite her over, as she was taking part in the universe she created . Stephenie Meyer’s cameos in the Twilight Saga are just two examples of the many Easter eggs the movies have, and they are by far the most special ones.
