Vampires, werewolves, humans — it’s time to return to Forks, Washington.
Twilight’s impact on pop culture continues.
On April 19, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter announced that a TV adaptation of the Twilight saga (!!) is in the works at Lionsgate. The series, which the outlet reports is in “early development,” will be based on the best-selling Twilight book series by Stephanie Meyer.
Bella Swan’s star-crossed romance with vampire Edward Cullen unfolds over four novels (and three companion books), as she struggles with her affection for her best friend (and Edward’s sworn enemy) Jacob Black, and grapples with the choice to remain human, or become an immortal being alongside her boyfriend and his family. Decisions, decisions.
A TV iteration is predated by the iconic Twilight saga film franchise, which catapulted Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner to fame. Twilight debuted in 2008, followed by New Moon (2010), Eclipse (2012), Breaking Dawn: Part 1 (2011), and Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (2012).
Lionsgate executives remain tight-lipped about the TV show, but in between re-reading the books for the umpteenth time, having a Twilight movie marathon, and pledging our allegiance (once again) to Team Edward or Team Jacob, we’re here to break down all of the details. Keep reading for everything we know (so far) about the Twilight television series.
Where can I watch the Twilight TV series?
The series isn’t attached to a network or streaming service yet, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet reports that Lionsgate TV, which controls the franchise rights, wants to develop the project before pitching it to buyers.
When will the Twilight TV series debut?
The series is in early development, so there’s no confirmation on when it will premiere.
Who will star in the series?
Casting details are also unknown, but The Hollywood Reporter says that Sinead Daly, whose past credits include Tell Me Lies and The Walking Dead: World Beyond, is slated to write the script. Sources tell the outlet that author Stephanie Meyer is also attached to the project, as she was for the film franchise.
Will stars from the Twilight movie return to the TV series?
The Hollywood Reporter says that the exact angle of the Twilight series is still in development. It could be a remake of the book series, or it could take a different approach based in the Twilight universe. That being said, it’s unclear if any of the OG stars will reprise their roles (but we’re keeping our fingers crossed).
