If you thought you’d seen every bit of the “Twilight Saga” there was to see, think again — though don’t expect anything too mind blowing.
In most cases, there is usually a pretty good reason for a scene to be cut out of the movie. It can be left on the cutting room floor for any number of reasons; maybe it interferes with the flow of the film, maybe it doesn’t really add anything to the proceedings, maybe the movie is just too long, or maybe it’s just bad.
In the instance of a just released “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” deleted scene (first revealed on Entertainment Weekly), it’s a little hard to say why this scene didn’t make it into the final cut of the teen vampire romance. It falls into about every one of the aforementioned categories and it’s about as entertaining as any other scene in the movie. That is to say, it’s mind-numbingly boring.
The scene (which will be included in the special extended edition of “Breaking Dawn – Part 1”) features an extremely awkward post-coital breakfast in which the newly married Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) joke about their “first time” together and briefly debate Bella’s future as a human-turned-vampire. It’s bad even by “Twilight’s” “so good it’s bad” standards.
Deleted scenes like this are often fodder for DVD special features, but sometimes material that was cut from the theatrical version of a film is edited back into a special edition home video release. The forthcoming “Breaking Dawn – Part 1” DVD/Blu-ray will include more than eight minutes of footage that wasn’t included in the original theatrical cut. Here’s hoping that Lionsgate has saved the more entertaining scenes for the other six minutes of extra footage featured on the DVD. Yeesh!
“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 Extended Edition” (also known as the longest movie title in cinematic history) arrives on Blu-ray and DVD.
