Original Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has some names in mind on who she’d want to cast as Bella Swan and Edward Cullen if the vampire romance film were to be made today.
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hardwicke spoke about the potential casting of Bella and Edward if she were to have made Twilight in 2023. Horowitz happened to name Jacob Elordi as a possibility for Edward, to which Hardwicke said that choice was “perfect,” unable to think of anyone better for the part. She also said that there are a lot of “really cool” options for Bella, but after Horowitz mentioned Jenna Ortega earlier in the conversation, that’s who was coming to mind for Hardwicke as an “amazing” choice.
“Oh, yeah, that would be perfect. Have you seen Saltburn yet? Yeah, Jacob Elordi, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward Cullen. Exactly,” Hardwicke said. On casting Bella, the director added, “I do think there’s a lot of really cool young actors, so, I’m not sure if I could say… [but], of course, you just mentioned Jenna Ortega, she’s amazing.”
Elordi has garnered great praise for his role in the new film Saltburn alongside Barry Keoghan. He was also recently seen playing Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla Presley biopic Priscilla. The actor can also be recognized for his roles in Netflix’s Kissing Booth trilogy along with the hit HBO show Euphoria. He recently revealed how he was approached to audition for Superman: Legacy, but turned down the coveted role.
Ortega, meanwhile, is very well known for playing the titular character in Wednesday, Netflix’s extremely popular series based on The Addams Family. She has also appeared in 2022’s Scream along with this year’s sequel, Scream VI, though it was recently reported that she won’t be returning for Scream 7. Ortega will also have a starring role in the upcoming sequel Beetlejuice 2, which just wrapped up with filming. Additionally, she’ll have a main role in A24’s dark comedy Death of a Unicorn, which also stars Paul Rudd.
Twilight Is Getting Rebooted, But Who Will Play Bella and Edward?
In any case, Twilight is in the process of getting rebooted, but it remains unclear who will be playing the new incarnations of Bella and Edward. In April, it was reported that Lionsgate Television was moving forward with a TV series adaptation of Twilight. It’s not yet known when the new show will arrive.
