Breaking Dawn – Part 1’s wedding scene features a great little Easter egg for fans in the form of a cameo by Twilight mastermind Stephenie Meyer.
Here’s Stephenie Meyer’s cameo during The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 wedding scene explained. Published between 2005 and 2008, Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight Saga novels quickly became YA best-sellers and garnered a fervid fandom, the likes of which hadn’t been seen since the Harry Potter books were published. Summit Entertainment soon snaps up the rights to adapt Meyer’s Twilight books for the big screen, resulting in a five-film series that ranks one of the most successful young adult movie franchises of all time.
Stephenie Meyer didn’t just provide the source material for the Twilight Saga movies, however. Since the first Twilight movie was released to the franchise’s conclusion with Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Meyer worked closely with screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg – who wrote the scripts for all five Twilight movies – to ensure her books were translated authentically to the big screen. She also served as a producer on the last two Twilight movies and was instrumental in choosing what Bella Swan’s wedding dress looked like in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1, handpicking designer Carolina Herrera to create the gown.
Meyer didn’t just work behind the scenes on the Twilight movies either. When it came to filming the iconic Twilight wedding of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen in Breaking Dawn – Part 1, Meyer herself nabbed a cameo in the scene. As Bella is being walked down the aisle by her father Charlie Swan, Meyer appears in the wedding party as a guest – she’s the one wearing a red dress and standing on the left-hand side of the congregation. Two other crew members – screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and producer Wyck Godfrey – also have cameos during the sequence and can be seen standing next to Meyer.
Stephenie Meyer’s appearance in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 wedding wasn’t actually her first cameo in the film franchise. In the very first Twilight movie, there’s a scene in which Bella Swan meets her dad at a diner for dinner. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, Meyer can be seen sitting at the counter working on a laptop as a waitress serves her and says, “Here’s your veggie plate, Stephanie.”
It’s now been almost a decade since The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 and Part 2 were released, but the franchise isn’t entirely over just yet. Back in August 2020, Stephenie Meyer released Midnight Sun – a companion novel that retells the story of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective – and has plans to publish two more Twilight-related books in the future.
