The Volturi took care of the humans that worked for them, not out of decency but for their gains reflecting their innate and ongoing selfish motives behind every action.

Jane And Alec
Along with many quotes from the Twilight books that fans wish were in the movies, the interesting backstories of many vampires were omitted from the films, such as Jane and Alec.

Although movie fans won’t know this, Aro was interested in Jane and Alec from a very young age but had to wait for them to grow older and the opportune moment to turn them. The Volturi are meant to be the rule-enforcing gatekeepers of the vampire world, so their role entails keeping close track of all the illegal vampire happenings and delivering punishment accordingly. Although the Volturi do eventually come around to Renesmee, their initial disgust and immediate instinct to murder the child (shown in this tweet by @keyon) highlights how narrow-minded and wrong they can be when it comes to delivering their ideas of justice and preserving their limiting laws.
