On Tuesday (March 18), it was announced that Max will not pick up the show for a fourth season. The show’s producers are reportedly attempting to re-home the series with Netflix…but so far, we’ve heard no news about the show being saved.

Renee Rapp, who played Leighton Murray, departed The Sex Lives of College Girls during season 3. This is believed to have impacted the show’s drop in viewership and critical response, potentially attributing to Max’s decision to cancel.

Clean Slate is a new comedy series from legendary producer, Norman Lear. The show follows Harry Slate (George Wallace), an old-school and outspoken Alabama car wash owner, who has a lot of soul searching to do when the estranged child he thought was a son returns home to Mobile as a proud, trans woman, Desiree (Laverne Cox).

Desiree works to repair the fraught relationship with her father, navigating their relationship while contending with vastly different points of view as roommates. They find themselves facing all of the hilarious coming-of-age milestones they missed out on the first time around.

Along the way, Harry’s employee and right-hand man at the car wash, Mack (Jay Wilkison), takes a shine to Desiree. Their flirtation evolves with episode. Desiree’s return as her authentic self turns the church on its head, and puts a strain on her relationship with her closeted best friend and choir director, Louis (D.K. Uzoukwu). Meanwhile, Louis’s mother, Ella (Telma Hopkins) and Harry enjoy a deepening flirtation. Despite some hesitation, Desiree ultimately emboldens Louis to live his truth. The show stars Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. Rescue HI-Surf has unfortunately been canceled by Fox after only 1 season on the air.

This is hugely disappointing news for fans, who were rallying for the renewal.

The series followed a group of heroic lifeguards on the North Shore of O’ahu as they saved lives and navigated their personal relationships. It starred Robbie Magasiva as Harlan “Sonny” Jennings, Arielle Kebbel as Emily “Em” Wright, Adam Demos as Will Ready, Kekoa Kekumano as Laka Hanohano, Zoe Cipres as Hina Alexander, and Alex Aiono as Kainalu Emerson.

It had quite a following, but sadly, Fox decided to part ways.

Cancellation Dates: June/July 2025

HGTV has reportedly canceled 5 TV shows over the past few weeks: Battle on the Beach, Farmhouse Fixer, Married to Real Estate, Izzy Does It and Bargain Block.

They’ve not officially spoken out about the cancellations, but the hosts of the shows have seemingly confirmed all the news.
