The episode opens with a prison transfer that goes wrong. The prisoner, Justine (Camille Hollett-French), feigns an illness, and the driver, Rachel (Carlena Britch), almost too willingly agrees to pull over. Justine shoots the other prison guard and, as far as the cops know, takes Rachel hostage. Lucky for her, or so we think, Rachel’s aunt, Detective Brock (Diana Maria Riva), worked with Colter in Season 1, Episode 9, “Aurora.” Brock enlists him for a second team-up and makes Colter an official temporary employee of the Aurora Police Department. Our intrepid loner is appropriately grumpy about that, but the cops don’t pay cash. Cousin Randy uses security footage from a rest area near the scene to identify a getaway car and driver. Not only are Justine and Rachel not on foot, but this escape was planned. Colter and Brock find the getaway car in the woods near an underground bunker, like a Cold War-era fallout shelter, where inside, it appears Justine grabbed some cash. Colter observes that the bunker looks like it was used to store marijuana from a grow operation. He finds a phone number and texts it to Randy. (Colter also calls him to make sure he got the text. Old man, much?) It’s a burner, but Randy traces the metadata back to the prison Justine escaped from with Rachel and the other guard. This is officially a conspiracy. They need to infiltrate Vermont women’s prison to find out what’s going on… but that’s not a job for Colter or Detective Brock.
In the gripping fifteenth episode of ‘Tracker’ Season 2, titled “The Grey Goose,” viewers are treated to an unexpected partnership that adds depth and intrigue to the series. Colter Shaw, portrayed by Justin Hartley, joins forces with his old rival, Billie Matalon, played by Sofia Pernas, to tackle a complex case involving an escaped prisoner and a missing person. This episode not only delves into the intricacies of their collaboration but also sheds light on their evolving relationship.
Colter Shaw’s New Challenge
The episode kicks off with Colter being summoned to Aurora, Vermont, by Detective Helen Brock. An inmate named Justine Campos has escaped from prison, taking a guard hostage. The situation becomes personal for Detective Brock as her niece, Rachel Sherwood, is also missing and believed to be connected to the escape. Recognizing the complexity of the case, Colter realizes he needs assistance from someone with unique skills.
Enter Billie Matalon: An Old Rival
To navigate the dangerous waters of the women’s prison and gather crucial information, Colter enlists the help of Billie Matalon, a fellow rewards seeker with whom he shares a complicated history. Billie agrees to go undercover inside the prison, adopting the alias “The Matador” to infiltrate the inmate hierarchy and extract valuable intelligence.
Billie’s Undercover Mission
Once inside, Billie focuses on establishing connections with key inmates, particularly targeting Mamma Roach, a crime boss who orchestrated Justine’s escape. Through cunning and resilience, Billie uncovers that Justine and Mamma Roach were plotting to steal from Justine’s stepmother’s family’s marijuana business. However, Billie’s cover is compromised when Mamma Roach becomes suspicious, leading to a tense confrontation that nearly costs Billie her life.
Colter and Detective Brock’s Investigation
While Billie operates inside the prison, Colter and Detective Brock work tirelessly on the outside to trace Justine and Rachel’s whereabouts. Their investigation reveals that Rachel wasn’t an innocent victim but an active participant in the escape plan, motivated by a scheme to steal a hidden stash of money from her family’s shell company. This revelation adds layers of complexity to the case, challenging Colter’s perceptions and strategies.
The Climactic Confrontation
The episode reaches its peak when Colter and Detective Brock locate Justine and Rachel. A high-stakes confrontation ensues, testing the limits of their resolve and resourcefulness. Through a combination of tactical prowess and psychological insight, they manage to apprehend the fugitives, bringing a tense and action-packed sequence to a satisfying resolution.
A New Chapter for Colter and Billie
After the dust settles, Colter visits Billie at her hotel to express his gratitude and apologize for the dangers she faced during the mission. This heartfelt exchange leads to a moment of vulnerability between them, culminating in a romantic encounter that hints at a deeper connection beyond their professional rivalry.
