Tracker Star Justin Hartley Teases ‘Bigger Mystery’ in Season 2
The first season of Tracker ended Sunday night, but the creative team behind CBS’s new hit series has been working on Season 2 for quite some time. The show was renewed for a second season from the get-go, giving them plenty of time to decide where to take the story after Season 1. The new season will certainly include more disappearances, but it will also lead to an even bigger mystery involving Colter Shaw’s past.
Without giving away any spoilers, the final three episodes of Tracker Season 1 provided a lot of insight into Colter’s family and the tragic death of his father. Fans got some clues, but even more mysteries were set up along the way, leaving plenty for the next season.
Following the finale, star and executive producer Justin Hartley spoke to Deadline about what the season finale means for Colter, and he teased an even bigger mystery that’s coming next season.
“When you have a show like this, and you end it in such a nice way, and you wrap all these stories up in a nice little bow, it’s so cool and wonderful,” Hartley said. “But we have another season to shoot that we have to do better than Season 1. So… while we wanted all those storylines to wrap up, we also wanted those bows to lead to other questions — bigger, deeper questions — about his past. So I think we did that in answering some of the questions that we’ve been building up over the course of the year. I think we did a good job of making sure that the answers to those questions then lead to a bigger mystery, something that we can unpack in Season 2.”
In addition, many of the guest stars who helped provide clues to that mystery will also find their way back into Colter’s life next season. Hartley went on to say that people like Sofia Pernas, Melissa Roxburgh, and Jensen Ackles will indeed be back for more episodes.
“[Sofia] will definitely be back. We have some pretty exciting stuff for her to do next year. She’ll be back multiple times next year,” he explained. “We plan on having my whole family back… We have a lot of questions to answer with Colter’s mom. Jennifer Morrison really gave this amazing performance. I think we would be remiss if we didn’t have her back. We’ve built a really great group of actors [who] hopefully will be ready to come back, because we’d love to do more with them. We have a lot of stories to tell with all of [them].”
