Tracker Season 2 Trailer Completely Misses the Main Plot of Justin Hartley’s Record-Breaking Drama
Tracker Season 2 is on its way, and to build excitement for the upcoming episodes, CBS has released a trailer that teases a key aspect of the series but unfortunately leaves out the best part of the story. The CBS action drama, created by Ben H. Winters, is based on Jeffery Deaver’s The Never Game and follows Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw. Colter is a survivalist and contract tracker (as the show’s title suggests) who travels across the country, tracking people down for a living. While Colter’s work is one of the cornerstones of Tracker, it’s not its biggest draw, as shown in season 1. After the series premiered after Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, 2024, Tracker season 1 became CBS’s highest-rated scripted series of the 2023-2024 season.
As the central character of Tracker, Colter’s story (including his mysterious past) is important and complex. Throughout the first series, the audience gradually learns more about Colter and how his past shaped who he is today. Unfortunately, even Colter doesn’t know the full details of his past, including the strange death of his father when Colter was a child. Since Hartley’s character didn’t learn the truth in the season 1 finale of Tracker, the mystery will continue into season 2, but one wouldn’t think so based on the show’s first trailer.

However, one can’t help but notice that there’s something missing from the trailer—it’s missing the biggest story arc of Tracker season 2. The mystery surrounding Colter’s father’s death will certainly play a major role in the upcoming episodes as Hartley continues to try to figure out what happened that night all those years ago. If Russell didn’t kill his father like Colter previously thought, then the pool of suspects is wide open. It’s only a matter of time before the truth is revealed, and hopefully that moment will come in season 2. As mentioned above, the Tracker season 2 trailer is pretty short. There was only so much content the editors could fit into the video, and they decided to focus on Colter’s work rather than the action-drama’s most important story (and tease the return of Jensen Ackles’ Tracker). Perhaps the trailer was hiding the tease surrounding the mystery of Ashton Shaw’s death because they would reveal too much about the upcoming season. Either way, fans can rest assured that Tracker season 2 will continue to explore what happened to Colter and Russell’s father.
Based on the novel by Jeffery Deaver, Tracker is an action-drama series created by Ben H. Winters for CBS. Traveling across the United States in his RV, Colter Shaw is a lone wolf with a broken past who spends his time helping solve mysteries and police cases in every town he passes through.
