Tracker Season 2 Loses First Original Cast Member
Tracker loses its first original cast member ahead of season 2. Starring This Is Us star Justin Hartley and created by Ben H. Winters, with Elwood Reid as showrunner, the action drama is based on the Never Game novels by Jeffery Weaver and follows Hartley’s Colter Shaw as a veteran survivor who makes a living helping others find missing people and solve their problems in exchange for money. The adaptation quickly became the biggest show on CBS and all of broadcast television, and was quickly confirmed for Tracker season 2. Ahead of the season 2 premiere on Sunday, October 13 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS, TVLine reports that Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin in Tracker season 1, will not be returning for the second season. There’s no word yet on how the show will handle Teddi’s absence, especially since Teddi’s wife Velma (played by Work in Progress star and creator Abby McEnany) will still be on the show.
Weigert played a significant but supporting role in season 1, with Teddi and Velma playing their roles to help Colter solve cases. This is in conjunction with the Tracker cast, which also includes Eric Graise and Fiona Rene, both of whom are returning. The action-packed series also has more guest stars, including Jensen Ackles, Jennifer Morrison, and Melissa Roxburgh, each of whom tell Colter’s story in some way.
Another positive is that the hit adaptation is still fresh enough to recover from such a significant cast change.
Since Teddi is an established presence, having been incorporated into every Tracker episode to date, Weigert’s absence is a shame. She’s an Emmy-nominated actress for her role as Calamity Jane on Deadwood and also stood out as Nicole Kidman’s no-nonsense therapist on HBO’s Big Little Lies. The hit horror series Smile turns that on its head, using Weigert’s familiar, comforting presence for cleverly sinister purposes. It’s safe to say that the first 13 episodes of the series could have featured this dynamic and acclaimed performer with more purpose.
