Tracker Season 2 Character Departure Explained and Its Impact Tracker showrunner

Elwood Reid has finally explained how the show will be writing off original character Teddi Bruin. In August, it was reported that Robin Weigert would not be reprising her role as Teddi in Tracker season 2. The Emmy-nominated actress, recognized for her roles in Deadwood, Big Little Lies, and the 2022 horror film Smile, has been with the CBS show since its first episode, but no explanation was given for Weigert’s departure. This has led to much speculation since Teddi’s wife Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany) will still be a part of the Justin Hartley drama when it returns in just a few weeks.

In the Tracker season 2 trailer, Reid revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Teddi and Velma have broken up. The showrunner and executive producer shared that Velma will have to deal with feelings of abandonment and overcome them. Read the details below: “[Velma] and Teddy broke up. Velma is struggling with abandonment in some way, and she’s going to work through that emotion.”

Additionally, Reid also talked about Velma’s upcoming storyline with Reenie (Fiona Rene). Read the details below: “Both of these women, as they go through some things in their lives, will be able to lean on each other and be there for each other.”

While there has been speculation that Teddi and Velma will split or potentially divorce, confirmation from the showrunner is new. It comes after details about how Velma and Reenie would share more scenes together were teased in the Tracker season 1 finale. By helping Reenie set up her new law firm, Velma could be dealing with the unexpected breakdown of her relationship with Teddi. On the plus side, the breakup storyline gives McEnany a more meaningful presence. The star and creator of the widely praised comedy series Work in Progress, which has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, was reportedly overqualified for her brief scenes in season 1, where Velma and Teddi briefly counseled Colter Shaw (Hartley). The change suggests she’ll have a more prominent role in the Tracker cast.
