‘Tracker’ Returns With More Mystery in First Season 2
Image Network television still has some fight left, as CBS procedural Tracker has proven. After a successful first season, Justin Hartley’s Colter Shaw is back for an anticipated sequel. The former This Is Us star brought life to the crime-solving survivor who uses his unique skills to help law enforcement and citizens. The addition of Jensen Ackles as Colter’s brother Russell added credibility to the popular series’ first season. CBS Entertainment recently revealed what fans can expect from the second season, which is set to premiere this fall. The first episode of the second season is titled “Out of the Past” and will focus on Colter’s continuing mystery.
“While investigating the strange disappearance of a missing family whose car is found abandoned on the side of a road in the Arkansas backwoods, Colter makes a shocking discovery about his mother’s past that leads him into the world of organized crime. In addition, Reenie opens a new law firm and enlists Velma’s help in setting up shop.”
CBS also released images to accompany the episode’s synopsis. The photos show Colter in various positions next to his black truck as he calmly walks down the street. Other characters are also featured, including Fiona Rene’s Reenie Greene in her office and Abby McEnany’s Velma Bruin. Not pictured, however, is Robin Weigert, who plays Abby’s wife, Teddi. Tracker previously announced that Weigert would not be reprising her role in Season 2, a shock to many. Weigert is an iconic supporting actress who has become synonymous with the roles she’s played. Best known for playing Calamity Jane on HBO’s Deadwood, she also had a recurring role on FX’s Sons of Anarchy. Despite her pedigree, Season 2 will have to move forward without her. Showrunner Elwood Reid hinted to TVLine about how this will impact to the new season, specifically Velma, stating that she will be: “taking on a very interesting role with something that has been hinted at with the Reenie character in the last few episodes.” Weigert’s departure is a disappointment, but there’s still plenty to look forward to. Velma taking on a more central role is an exciting prospect, as is Ackles’ return, while he’s also leading The Boys spinoff, Vought Rising. The Supernatural actor has said he’ll be back in Season 2 to cause more trouble. Viewers can see all of this and more when Tracker Season 2 premieres on CBS on October 13 at 8 p.m. EST.
