NCIS: Tony & Ziva is set for a major crossover with the flagship series ahead of its debut. It was reported in February 2024 that Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo are reprising their respective fan-favorite roles as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David for a Paramount+ series. Now, NCIS: Tony & Ziva is set to debut in September.
The spinoff will see Weatherly and de Pablo share the screen for the first time in a decade, reuniting their fan-favorite pairing in a ten-episode drama. The Magicians showrunner and Trumbo writer John McNamara will pen the script. Weatherly, de Pablo, and McNamara are also executive producers. But before then, they’ll meet up with a familiar NCIS actor.
It has been confirmed by Paramount+’s official Instagram that de Pablo, Weatherly, and McNamara will appear at a San Diego Comic-Con panel moderated by NCIS veteran Brian Dietzen. It’s scheduled on Thursday, July 24, at the Indigo Ballroom from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and marks the reunion between the spinoff’s leads and Dietzen, who plays Jimmy Palmer.
What This Means For NCIS: Tony & Ziva
There Will Be A Question About Cameos
The latest NCIS show centers on Tony and Ziva as they raise their daughter in Paris. An attack on Tony’s security company, however, soon sends the pair on the run across Europe in an attempt to uncover the truth behind the attack. In the process, they may even learn to trust each other and reach a happy ending.
NCIS: Tony & Ziva will debut September 4 with three episodes exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. From there, new episodes will drop weekly on Thursdays, with the season finale set for October 23.
With a cast that includes Amita Suman, Maximilian Osinski, Lara Rossi, Isla Gie, Nassima Benchicou, Terence Maynard, Julian Ovenden, and James D’Arcy, the Paramount+ series will have plenty on its hands to contend with. But with Dietzen in attendance and the spinoff likely looking to make some news, we might hear about potential NCIS cameos.
Tony & Ziva has not been renewed for season 2 yet. But in success, especially given the sturdy track record of NCIS overall, executives are likely hoping to continue the series. That could potentially open the door to a cameo from Dietzen and other franchise vets.
Our Take On NCIS: Tony & Ziva’s Crossover Potential
There’s A Major Hurdle To Clear First
The big hope may well be that the two leads reunite with Mark Harmon’s Gibbs, given how closely the trio worked together for years. Despite not being an original cast member of NCIS, Ziva was the closest that Gibbs had to having another daughter after Kelly’s murder. Given this, it’s not exactly difficult to explain him coming to help the pair.
That being said, before that can happen, NCIS: Tony & Ziva has to be able to find success on its own merits without leaning on the franchise’s past.
