Today might just be the best that NCIS fans have had in a very long time.
Per Deadline, all three currently running NCIS series have officially been renewed for new seasons by CBS. This includes the main NCIS series, its first international spinoff, NCIS: Sydney, and the recently released prequel series, NCIS: Origins. The three NCIS shows were renewed alongside other fan-favorites, Elsbeth, Fire Country, and Tracker.
CBS President Amy Reisenbach said in a statement about the renewals, “This season, our new and returning series continue to showcase CBS as the leader in launching and programming the biggest hits with mass appeal for broadcast and streaming viewers.” Reisenbach continued, “These returning shows represent a mix of long-standing hits and a new generation of fan favorites. In collaboration with our extraordinarily talented partners in front of and behind the camera, we look forward to delivering another successful season.”
The NCIS Franchise Will Continue
While the original NCIS is itself a spinoff of the fan-favorite military police procedural JAG, the former has firmly established itself as its own unique franchise in the 22 years since it first debuted on CBS. NCIS starred one of the most memorable ensemble casts of all time throughout much of its run, with Mark Harmon leading as NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Jethro Gibbs alongside Sasha Alexander as NCIS Special Agent Caitling Todd, Michael Weatherly as NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, Pauley Perrette as NCIS Forensic Specialist Abby Sciuto, and David McCallum as Doctor Donald “Ducky” Mallard. After more than 479 episodes, four spinoffs, and one prequel series of its own, NCIS is still going strong, albeit not with the same starting lineup.
Back in September 2024, longtime fan-favorite NCIS star Emily Wickersham, who portrayed NSA analyst Eleanor Ray Bishop during later seasons of the series, opened up about her exit from the show and the difficulties readjusting to life off-set.
“Your life is all NCIS when you’re on that show,” Wickersham explained. “It’s all day, every day, and you’re not really left with much time to do many things outside of that. So that was a real adjustment for me… It’s strange to leave something that has been ingrained in you for so many years. I don’t know if I was necessarily ready, but it, it happened and it was amazing… It was time and I was ready to move on to something else, and I guess this was the something else I was meant to move on to. So it was good.”
