Here, read all about this all-new series that’s joined our weekly television rotation!

What is ‘Shifting Gears’ about?

Matt, a widower who owns a classic car shop, gets the surprise of a lifetime when his daughter, Riley, who walked out the door when she was 18, returns home with her two kids in tow. Down on her luck, broke and needing a little help while she figures out what her future is going to look like, Riley and her kids take up residence in Matt’s home as they put the pieces of both her life and their parent-child relationship back together.

Who stars in ‘Shifting Gears’?

Tim Allen takes the lead in the patriarch role in this series, with Kat Dennings playing the part of his daughter. The series also stars Seann William Scott, Daryl Mitchell, Maxwell Simkins and Barrett Margolis. For Kat Dennings, joining forces with TV icon Tim Allen has been nothing short of a dream, despite being something of a TV icon herself! “Tim Allen, I will say, is my favorite TV dad of all time. It’s been a real joy doing this show,” she told PEOPLE. “He’s Santa Claus and Buzz Lightyear. He’s a big part of my consciousness growing up, so it was very surreal to work with him, but in a great way because he’s a very kind person,” she continued.

Seann William Scott is also thrilled at the opportunity to share the screen with both Allen and Dennings. “The show is super-duper funny, with tons of heart. Kat Dennings and Tim Allen are the two leads and they’re just total rock stars. I am absolutely loving working with them,” he told Remind Magazine. “Tim Allen is a total legend. He’s hilarious and it’s just surreal every single day. Kat Dennings is also a comedic killer. The whole cast. I love everybody on the show,” he continued.

Tim Allen has also spoken fondly of this new role, saying, “I’ve done Mike Baxter [on Last Man Standing] and Tim Taylor [on Home Improvement]. So if I do this again, I pitched three things: I want a guy that lost his wife recently, so he’s dealing with grief; I want a guy with the family that doesn’t get along; And then he has a custom car shop,” he told Us Weekly. “[Matt] is more like me. I’m more of an artist. I was a design student and a philosopher and my standup comedy is really about messing with people in a good way.”
