While Chicago Fire season 14 will bring some departures, fans can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that three familiar faces are confirmed to return for the new season.
According to Deadline, NBC has secured new contracts with three main cast members ahead of the upcoming season. Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide), Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd), and Dermot Mulroney (Chief Tom Pascal) have all signed on to reprise their roles, ensuring that they’ll be back at Firehouse 51 when the hit drama returns this fall.
It makes perfect sense that NBC and Wolf Entertainment prioritized bringing this trio back. Kidd and Severide are a cornerstone couple in the series, and the season 13 finale revealed they’re expecting their first baby — a major development that fans are eager to see unfold. As for Chief Pascal, his presence at Firehouse 51 is still fairly new, but season 13 gave viewers a glimpse of him settling into his leadership role. Season 14 should offer an opportunity to explore more layers of his character.
Now that Kinney, Mayo, and Mulroney are officially on board, the hope is that other cast members will also return, especially to avoid too much cast turnover, which has been a concern for many fans.
At the moment, the status of several longtime and newer cast members hasn’t been confirmed. That includes original stars David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Joe Minoso (Joe Cruz), and Christian Stolte (Randall “Mouch” McHolland), all of whom have been part of the show since the beginning. Fans are hopeful the trio will be back, as they’ve become staples of Chicago Fire and essential parts of the firehouse family.
Additionally, it’s unclear if newer cast members like Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami), Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla Novak), and Michael Bradway (Jack Damon) will be returning. Their contract details haven’t been made public yet.
What has been confirmed is the departure of Jake Lockett (Sam Carver) and Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter) as series regulars. While it remains to be seen whether the two actors will make guest appearances in season 14, their time as core cast members has come to an end, reportedly due to budget constraints.
Production on season 14 is expected to begin in July, so more casting updates should be on the horizon soon — including word on whether any new characters will join the firehouse.
Chicago Fire returns this fall on NBC, and fans are already counting down the days.
