“They’re so filled with pain”: Kelly Reilly’s ‘Hot Take’ on One of Most Detestable Yellowstone Characters Makes Sense When You Watch the Taylor Sheridan Drama Closely
Kelly Reilly’s Yellowstone is a show with a great number of ups and downs when it comes to its casting and creative decisions. While the series was one that fans really came to enjoy, it was its co-stars that had a problem with the series in one manner or another. When it comes to speaking up about the series, there is not much that anyone tries to hide. So a rather controversial take by the actress was something no one had expected.
Even though her opinion of Jamie Dutton is not one that many would resonate with, she might not be wrong. Upon a closer look into Taylor Sheridan’s show, one can come to the conclusion that Reilly’s feeling sorry for Jamie might not be too out of pocket.
Kelly Reilly’s Opinion on Jamie Dutton
Kelly Reilly once argued that one of the most hated characters in the show, Jamie Dutton was often misunderstood. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the actress, who plays Beth Dutton on Yellowstone explained as to how scenes as her character with Jamie were not as easy to play out. Playing Beth, it is not easy for her character to like Jamie.
“They’re so filled with pain, so they’re pretty brutal,” she continued. “It’s hard to talk about it honestly, because when I’m playing her I’m full in… and then I watch it and I don’t even remember doing some of the scenes. I feel really bad for Jamie sometimes.”
She explained that when she is acting, she is giving her everything without a doubt. However, she never really went back to those scenes. Reilly claimed that her memory of some scenes is faint, posing as a sort of barrier for her to be unable to hate Jamie. In turn, she actually felt sorry for him.
Kelly Reilly Might Not be Wrong
Beth’s hatred for Jamie is more than justified. His character is portrayed as one who is meant to be hated because of his attitude and arrogance. However, for Beth it is personal. Jamie is the reason as to why she is infertile. Her hatred for him is rooted in every cell of her body and is justified to be so. Despite it all, Reilly cannot get herself to hate the character. What she feels for him is more pity than anything else.
Jamie as a person has grown up in a complicated setting. He is hated by his father, manipulated and prodded to become a person resented by all those around him. He is confused, guilt-ridden and suffering from the inside without truly being able to understand his own mind.
