Although Chicago Fire is currently on hiatus, behind the scenes, momentum is building for season 14 — and fans can now rest easy knowing that three major characters are confirmed to return to Firehouse 51. Lieutenant Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney), Firefighter Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), and Battalion Chief Dominick “Dom” Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) are all set to reprise their roles in the upcoming season.
The news doesn’t come as a huge surprise, considering how integral these characters have been to recent story arcs. Severide and Kidd continue to be a fan-favorite duo, and the season 13 finale’s surprise pregnancy reveal has paved the way for some major plotlines ahead.
As for Chief Pascal, while he’s a relatively new face at Firehouse 51, he’s already made a strong impression with his calm but authoritative leadership style. His return suggests that his storyline is far from over. The fact that Severide helped exonerate Pascal in a dramatic turn of events last season only deepens their connection, setting up plenty of opportunities to explore their evolving friendship in season 14.
According to Deadline, Kinney and Mayo were both nearing the end of their contracts at the conclusion of season 13, while Mulroney had initially signed on for just one season. Fortunately for fans, all three have now renewed their agreements, securing their place in the next chapter of the hit firefighter drama.
With these major cast members confirmed, more casting news is expected in the near future. Updates on returning actors and potential new faces will likely follow soon. While not officially announced, it’s anticipated that familiar names like David Eigenberg, Christian Stolte, and Jocelyn Hudon will be back as well.
Season 14 of Chicago Fire is slated to debut this fall on NBC, airing every Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT. It will follow new episodes of Chicago Med season 11 and lead into the return of Chicago PD season 13.
