Theresa Nist once revealed that she didn’t want to be with anyone after her husband passed, making her situation with Gerry Turner even sadder.
The news of Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s divorce has come as no shock to many fans considering recent events. After fans began to find out more and more about the latter’s past, it is safe to say that public sentiment drastically shifted. While there is no denying that the situation was blindsided for many, considering just how madly in love they seemed to be, it has also caused many to feel sympathetic towards one more than the other.
With several reports coming out about the reality of Turner’s life, fans have turned their loyalty towards Nist, feeling bad about how she was treated in the entire situation. While all that has transpired since their wedding was awful enough, one confession from her side makes everything even more tragic.
Theresa Nist Closed Herself Off To Love After Her Husband’s Passing
After the end of The Golden Bachelor, Theresa Nist, and Gerry Turner gave an interview with Esquire, where they touched on various aspects of their past and what was going to be their future together. Specifically talking about their late partners, they were asked if they ever thought of getting into a relationship after they experienced such a great loss.
Turner’s answer was quite simple, stating that he decided to give himself 18 months to feel the loss and grieve his wife. After that, he realized that he wanted to find someone and wanted to be in a permanent relationship. With this in mind, he ended up going to a grief counselor and getting an all-clear to step back into the world of dating.
I was also grieving for eighteen months or so, but then I wanted to date. But I also wanted to find some permanence. I was meant to be with someone. After two and a half years, I ended up going to a grief counselor, who assured me that I was fine. It’s a mysterious thing coming out of grief, but I began to know when I was ready to date again.
While this was certainly an interesting answer, it was what Nist had to say that was all the more disheartening. She revealed that her husband’s passing deeply affected her in every way possible. She confessed that when it happened, she went into a dark state of mind, and never wanted to be with someone else ever again.
When my husband died, my initial reaction was, “I’ll never be in love again or in a relationship again. I’m done.” After eighteen months of heavy grieving, I told my daughter, “I’d just like to have dinner with a man sometime.” And she put me on Match.com but nothing really came of it.
After experiencing the loss of her husband, she was convinced that she would not date again until she finally decided to open up on the series.
A Betrayal of the Highest Regard
Knowing that Theresa Nist had closed herself off to the possibility of love makes the entire situation all the more tragic. She was completely heartbroken after losing her husband and then when she finally decided to open herself to romance again on The Golden Bachelor, only to have her heart broken again. What makes the entire situation all the worse is the Gerry Turner aspect of it all.
In a question where she was more honest and vulnerable than ever, Turner was allegedly lying about his answer. A source fake-named Carolyn opened up to The Hollywood Reporter about her past relationship with Turner. She claimed that they started their relationship the very same year that he lost his wife.
She also alleged that they were involved for three years and even lived with each other for a year. There have been many inconsistencies that fans have begun to find in Turner’s stories. Additionally, there was also the Instagram post where he seemed to be making a nod to the rumored reason for his divorce from Nist.
Wearing a T-shirt that reads “Indiana, It’s Not That Bad,” many believe the reason for their parting to be the fact that Nist did not want to move to Indiana, Truner got a lot of backlash for this move. With all the signs pointing at one person, fans feel incredibly betrayed at his treatment of Nist.
