Soon heading into its eighth season, The Rookie is anything but what its title would suggest over at its home network of ABC. But, there are clearly still some greenhorns out there, as the title has started to pick up some fresh eyes over on Netflix where, according to FlixPatrol, it’s currently climbing up the Top 10 chart in more than 20 countries. Whether it’s their first time or they’re going in for a fifth re-watch, the show is making moves in countries including Egypt, Kenya, Panama, Nigeria, South Africa, and Venezuela, where it’s battling out other bingeable shows for the sought-after ranking.
The burst of appreciation for the Nathan Fillion-led procedural shouldn’t come as too much of a shock considering it’s been one of ABC’s top-performing titles since it first arrived back in 2018. Since then, audiences have tuned in week after week to follow along with Fillion’s John Nolan, who — in the very first season — packs up his life in Pennsylvania and moves to Los Angeles to pursue a new career in law enforcement. As the oldest recruit in training, John has a lot to prove, but his determination and perseverance do just that — and fans have continued to eat it up season after season.
Speaking of seasons, ABC has long understood what a catch it made with The Rookie, and this year gave its dedicated following the greatest gift possible — serving it with a Season 8 renewal ahead of its Season 7 finale. The show did a terrific job of tying up loose ends during the finale, but there are still plenty of plots left to dig into in the next set of episodes. For now, we’re happy to know that the team is back at it again, with cameras officially up and running on the continuation of the story.
Can’t Wait For Season 8? Here’s Where You Can See ‘The Rookie’s Lead This Summer
If you’re having a difficult time waiting for more episodes of The Rookie and missing the incredible skills of Nathan Fillion, we’ve got a solution for you. This summer, the drama’s main man will leave his good-guy, crime-fighting persona behind and step into a completely different kind of role thanks to James Gunn’s Superman. In it, Fillion will appear as Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern — a character who couldn’t be further from John Nolan. While fans of titles like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog will know that Fillion can play a downright diabolical villain or overall jerk, his role in Superman will certainly knock some fans of The Rookie out of their seats — just take our word for it.
The Rookie is now streaming on Hulu in the U.S.
